- ➤ Bogert's Covered Bridge, Allentown’s oldest historic structure, is undergoing a $2.6 million renovation (including a slate roof, repaired siding, and fresh paint) after closing in September. The work is expected to finish by late summer or early fall to serve local park users. 69 News
- ➤ During the week of Dec. 15, the Northeast Neighborhood Center distributed holiday gifts to 568 children from 36 donors including individual donors, churches, and companies — non-registered families could also pick a toy from the Santa Shop after a special drop-off by the Bethlehem Police Department. - ➤ Mighty Pawz suffered a major business drop when a 10-week construction blocked access to its doggy daycare at 937 Stefko Blvd. Astound Business Solutions will match GoFundMe donations up to $10K to support a new facility at 911 Gove Road Rear in Nazareth, slated for mid-January. - ➤ On Dec. 30, gas prices in the Lehigh Valley fell below $3 a gallon — averaging $2.990 as lower oil costs and increased supply eased expenses. National prices also dropped, marking the lowest levels since December 2020. Lehigh Valley Business

- ➤ In December, Freedom HS hosted spirit events as students chose new classes, took part in a Dec. 9 blood drive, and visited local schools and a retirement community for holiday readings while art shows, competitions and a strong start to winter sports rounded out the busy month. Bethlehem Press
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bethlehem secured $400K to help 13 agencies in Northampton and Lehigh counties provide emergency sheltering (rapid rehousing and street outreach) for those in need. The funding is part of $5,330,914 in ESG grants awarded by the state for community organizations. WLVR
- ➤ The Pennsylvania House Game and Fisheries Committee approved House Resolution 356 to boost transparency in the elk lottery by requiring hunters to have a valid license, capping nonresident tags, and making bull tags a one-time chance—new rules set to affect the elk hunt in 2026. - ➤ Fellowship Community in Whitehall is building new independent living suites as senior housing demand grows in the Lehigh Valley, with residences ranging from 1,050 to 1,450 sqft that offer customizable features (such as guest rooms and design choices) and include maintenance, utilities, Wi-Fi, cable TV, and taxes. - ➤ The Bethlehem Zoning Hearing Board approved dimensional variances for a new 5-unit townhome project (at 1224 Eaton Ave) in West Bethlehem on Dec. 17, letting developer Abe Atiyeh reduce parking aisle widths, adjust driveway setbacks and remove one planned unit in favor of more green space. WLVR

- ➤ The Whitehall girls soccer team ended last fall with a 13-5 record and advanced into the playoffs (EPC and District 11); head coach Chris Bleam said the squad will return this fall with seven starters plus new talent from incoming ninth graders. Lehigh Valley Press

- ➤ Junior Sophia Schaffer and Logan Mesics were named to the Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association All-State teams after a strong season at Northwestern Lehigh — Schaffer scored 57 goals last season and Mesics led his team with 49 goals.
