  • Lehigh Township officers rescued an elderly woman who fell into a pond at the 3400 block of W. Walker Dr on Sunday after 2:30 p.m.; Northampton Regional EMS later took her to the hospital for treatment.  69 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Allegiant plans to acquire Sun Country Airlines in a $1.5 billion deal that may eventually offer nonstop international flights from Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE). Officials shared details Monday morning during a webcast, noting that regulatory and shareholder approvals are still needed.  69 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • MLK Day events on Monday, Jan. 19 will feature free family activities at the Allentown Art Museum, a donation drive at Synod Church, a march in Bethlehem, and programs at Moravian University, Greater Shiloh Church and Lower Macungie Library.   • The Bethlehem Area School District board reviewed a measure to set borrowing limits ahead of a Jan. 26 vote as it plans the next $20 million phase to replace Fountain Hill Elementary with an 85,000 sqft K‑5 school at Church St for 500 students (with temporary classes in Hanover Township).  69 News
  • Bethlehem Area School District has launched a Student Communications Internship Program giving high school students hands-on experience in journalism, digital media and storytelling. Interns will cover district events, create content for BASD platforms and work with local professionals+ access a creative lab opening in December.  69 News

  • AccuWeather forecasts clouds returning Wednesday and a storm system moving from the Great Lakes later this week; if jet streams merge (bringing heavy snow along I-95), areas including Allentown may see accumulating snow while a separate pattern yields only light showers.  Daily Voice

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Shapiro announced nearly $82M in funding to support 295 upcoming park, trail and conservation projects across 58 counties (including local projects in Lehigh County) to improve outdoor spaces and boost the recreation industry. The new funding will build trails, rehabilitate parks and conserve natural areas in the coming months.  69 News

  • Developers plan a $67 million multifamily community in Palmer Township that will include 216 apartment units on a 16-acre site at Van Buren East.
