COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lehigh Valley Auto Show will run March 18-22 at Lehigh University’s Goodman Campus, featuring electric vehicles, car clubs and family events. A tuner car show and a gala in Bethlehem on March 21 add to the event.  Lehigh Valley Business
  • Hundreds of plungers, including seasoned participant Samantha Ahern, will take a cold dip this Saturday at Coca‑Cola Park — the usual Delaware site is blocked by icy conditions, and funds raised will help Special Olympics athletes play sports for free.  69 News
  • On March 1, the Alburtis Sportsmen’s 31st Spring Flea Market will offer new and used outdoor gear at the Community Center with admission at 4 dollars, while on March 6 the National Wild Turkey Federation will host a banquet at Homewood Suites featuring raffles and a live auction.  Lehigh Valley Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Northwestern Lehigh High School announced its second marking period honor roll recipients for high honors and honors. Students earning high honors achieved a 93 GPA without grades below 80 while those on the honor roll earned at least a 90 GPA without any grade below 77 in the marking period.  Bethlehem Press
  • During its Feb. 10 meeting, the Catasauqua Area School District board approved the 2026-27 budgets for LCCC+CLIU and confirmed Pelorus Group as the construction manager for Sheckler Elementary's addition project at the board room on N. 14th St.  Lehigh Valley Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • PPL plans to replace farmland in South Whitehall Township with new high voltage transmission lines and a substation starting this summer, pending PUC approval. Local residents and the owners of a proposed wedding venue worry property values may fall+ PPL is negotiating land easements and may use eminent domain.  69 News
  • Public transit agency LANTA will raise fares on Monday, March 23, marking its first hike in over a decade. A single ride will cost $2.50 while day passes and 31-day passes increase to $5 and $70, respectively, and transfers on board buses will be eliminated, though the senior pass remains free.  69 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • LVHN completed renovations at Cedar Crest birthing center with 10 labor rooms, a birthing suite with hydrotherapy tub, upgraded perinatal and triage rooms, and a redesigned nurse’s station. The project (began Sept. 2024) equips the center with new technology to enhance patient care.  Lehigh Valley Business

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Census data from 2024 show a surge in rental vacancies while December eviction filings peaked at 676 in Lehigh County, the highest since August 2023. Housing advocates and county officials said rising rents and limited affordable options are intensifying cost burdens for many renters and fueling housing instability.  Lehigh Valley News
  • In January 2024, Lehigh Valley home sales dropped by 10.1% to 366 listings while median prices rose 11.1% to $350,000 due to a harsh winter and low inventory — GLVR CEO Justin Porembo said new housing initiatives signal future growth.  Lehigh Valley Business

  • Northampton boys basketball won the East Penn Conference title after beating Parkland High School Trojans 52-49 on Feb. 12 at PPL Center. NAHS cheerleaders (adding to the student section’s energy) marked the win as the team now heads to District 11 Class 6A playoffs.  Lehigh Valley Press
