COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Astound announced a $300k investment to upgrade technology for six local non-profit organizations including libraries and Boys and Girls Clubs (Allentown Public Library, Bethlehem Area Public Library, and others). The upgrades, aimed at bridging the digital divide, will roll out throughout 2026.  69 News
  • Cody Ehling, a volunteer firefighter, is recognized by the Red Cross for his heroic act last March at Wingstop in Muhlenberg Township where he quickly helped a baby breathe, leading to a full recovery.  69 News
  • Soups and Scoops returns on March 19 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Northampton Area Middle School cafeteria at 1617 Laubach Ave & raises money for local food banks and school pantries with handmade bowls, soups, salads, ice cream, live music and activities.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • North Catasauqua Borough Council is seeking vendors, crafters, and community partners for Community Day, May 29 from 5 to 8 p.m. at William J. Albert Memorial Park. The meeting also set dates for a raffle fundraiser on April 15, a recycling event on May 12, and youth soccer practices at the park.  Lehigh Valley Press

  • Today, Mack Trucks announced that its new Keystone + reimagined Granite models will be available to order later this year; the vehicles will be assembled at Lehigh Valley Operations after debuting at ConExpo-Con/Agg 2026 in Las Vegas.  69 News
  • City Council approved a liquor license transfer from South Whitehall Township so restaurateur Donny Petridis can open an upscale American restaurant in the former TGI Fridays at Shops at Cedar Point by year's end; the venue plans 150 indoor and 80 outdoor seats and will create 60 local jobs.  69 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Pennsylvania Department of Education released data for the 2024-25 school year showing Lehigh Valley teacher salaries. Teachers in Lehigh County earned $80,967 while Northampton County teachers earned $81,567, with four districts surpassing a $90,000 average and Pen Argyl teachers averaging $67,557.  Lehigh Valley Live
  • L&I Secretary Nancy Walker announced at a Susquehanna Township School District event that the Shapiro Administration is investing $4.1 million to expand Schools-to-Work and Pre-Apprenticeship pathways statewide (including $250,000 for allied health programs in Lehigh Valley) to prepare high school students for real-world careers.  Lehigh Valley Business
  • Lehigh Carbon Community College closed all its campuses through Saturday due to an IT disruption — with classes moving online, and students are advised to check their emails for updates.  69 News
  • Middle and high school students visited Hays and Ramos elementary schools and Jackson Early Childhood Center on Wednesday as part of Read Across America Week (promoting literacy and leadership) and read donated books to inspire younger students to love reading.  69 News
