BUSINESS NEWS

  • Embassy Bank for the Lehigh Valley, the region's largest locally based bank (with $1.7 billion in deposits), is celebrating 25 years with events scheduled through November.  Lehigh Valley Business
  • Calpine Corporation is selling its Bethlehem Energy Center (at 2254 Applebutter Road) to LS Power as part of a $5 billion divestment deal required by the DOJ. The transaction will add the plant to LS Power's portfolio later this year.  69 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dorney Park’s Runaway River, Wave Pool, and Six Flags Great Adventure’s famed coaster El Toro are nominated for USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, with voting open until Monday, Apr. 20 (winners announced Wed., Apr. 29) while Dorney Park opens its season May 8 and Six Flags previews on Friday.  69 News
  • Construction of the ArtsQuest Creative Factory in Bethlehem is on track for a November soft opening with a grand opening in January 2027. The 5-story, 80,000 sqft center will house art studios, classrooms and performance spaces — it raised $27.8 million from local support after breaking ground in June.  69 News
  • Third Eye Blind will headline Musikfest as the final act on Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. on the Wind Creek Steel Stage at PNC Plaza. Gates open at 6 p.m. and tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.  69 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Eli Lilly announced a $3.5 billion manufacturing plant in Lehigh Valley that will create 850 permanent jobs and 2,000 construction jobs, with building starting later this year and production set for 2029 (the largest life sciences project in state history).  Lehigh Valley Business

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A local farm in Springfield Twp near Coopersburg hosts a six-week Barnyard Buddies program where children learn life skills by caring for horses, goats, pigs and dogs—activities include feeding, calming animals, and practicing yoga. Kids have already shown confidence improvements and parents notice the change.  69 News
  • Community advocates asked the school board on Monday to consider offering free lunch to all students, although officials said funding issues might delay action until a preliminary budget approval in May — local groups and clergy stressed that every child deserves a meal.  69 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At the Pennsylvania Brownfields Conference, experts toured Bethlehem Steel’s conversion from an industrial site to an entertainment campus (with tours extending to projects in Easton and Allentown) and discussed creative brownfield reuse ideas. The conference runs through Wednesday.  69 News

  • LANTA's first fare increase in more than a decade began Monday — fares rose to $2.50 for single rides from $2.00, day passes jumped from $4 to $5, and 31-day passes increased to $70 while the Senior Pass remained free.  69 News
