- ➤ The Downtown Allentown Alliance announced its partnership with United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley to boost downtown improvements using community input and both public and private funding. Sen. Nick Miller said United Way will lend expertise in leadership development, donation management, and grant writing until the group becomes independent. 69 News

- ➤ Downtown Allentown Market at 27 N. Seventh St. on the ArtsWalk will close on April 17 as its owners announced the indoor marketplace—opened in October 2019—will end operations. Lehigh Valley Live
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Carlee Davidson ’26 spent two days shadowing pediatrician Chris Raab at Lehigh Valley Hospital 17th Street as part of the Career Center’s winter externship program. She learned firsthand about teamwork and patient care—insight that will guide her pursuit to become a pediatrician serving her hometown. Muhlenberg College
- ➤ Allentown School District announced that Building 21 High School will become a theme-based school starting in 2025-26. The school will offer computer science courses in the fall and later add courses in artificial intelligence and allied health careers as it receives a new name to match its innovative focus. - ➤ Former teacher Jason Moorehead sued the district for violating his First Amendment rights after he attended a 2021 Stop the Steal rally and was fired in 2022; he received $131,500 in damages and turned down up to $2.5 million in settlements. Moorehead now seeks $3.1 million in fees and costs (oral arguments will be heard on May 6 at the Edward N. Cahn U.S. Courthouse). Lehigh Valley News

- ➤ Allentown officials approved a $220K contract with Davey Resource Group to complete a citywide tree inventory after a federal order paused work on a $920K grant. City Council remains hopeful that the remaining funds (nearly $700K) will come and will act on survey results (which will count tens of thousands of trees). WLVR
- ➤ The Council for Retail and Sales at DeSales University will hold its Meet the Experts panel at the Renaissance Hotel downtown on April 7 at 6 p.m. to discuss downtown Allentown’s evolving landscape with local experts — including Senator Nick Miller on state support and loan opportunities, Jill Wheeler on public art, and Manny Rodriguez sharing business insights as moderator Kecia Sturdivant leads the session.
