COMMUNITY NEWS

  • More than 80 participants from the Whitehall High School Interact Club completed a 2-mile charity run/walk (held on April 11) on the Whitehall-Coplay School District track, raising over $2,500 for Heifer International to help families end hunger and poverty.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • Historian Joshua Fink will lead a Pennsylvania Dutch Supper with Historical and Modern Trivia at Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church at 4 p.m. on April 19 at 3441 Devonshire Road where guests enjoy buffet food and fellowship while donations benefit the church history committee.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • A local auto shop in Richmond Township will offer free oil changes for single moms on the Saturday before Mother’s Day. The event (in its fourth year) will include free hot dogs, face painting, bounce houses, pony rides and car seat checks by state police.  69 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Broadcom, which operates two facilities in Tek Park and Hanover Township, announced an expanded AI deal with Meta to develop custom chips through 2029 (supporting Meta’s new data centers) and building on its recent agreement with Google. The move strengthens regional tech ties.  69 News
  • Manufacturers including Demco, Banner Automation, and Just Born showcased robotics and automation at the Automation and Manufacturing Technology Show held Wednesday morning in Upper Macungie Township at the Delta Hotel by Marriott — the nonprofit Manufacturers Resource Center organized it to boost regional networking and technology improvements.  69 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • After construction forced a change at its original location, the Cars & Coffee event is reimagined to run on May 31 at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown from 8 a.m. to noon. Organizers say the fresh layout aims to better showcase car culture in the community.  69 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Da Vinci Science Center in Allentown received a $50,000 NASA grant for an Artemis outreach program that will serve up to 120 students from Allentown and Parkland schools; the center will host a Mission Launch Party on Saturday, Apr. 18 from 1 to 4 p.m. featuring STEM activities.  69 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Lehigh County Authority has secured $15.4 million from PENNVEST to replace about 1,000 lead service lines in Allentown and improve water quality and public health. The project will replace public and private lines while identifying unknown system materials.  Lehigh Valley Business
  • Allentown's bond rating was upgraded to A+ by S&P Global due to seven consecutive fiscal surpluses and growing reserves, Mayor Matt Tuerk said. The stable outlook will allow the city to invest in critical priorities while keeping taxes low.  Lehigh Valley Business

  • Allentown residents enjoy early summer at Trexler Park while doctors advise taking precautions in warm weather. They recommend dressing lightly, staying in the shade, drinking water, and shifting outdoor routines (for example, running in the morning) to help the body adjust.  69 News
