COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Mayor Matt Tuerk awarded five mini grants ranging from $500 to $5,000 at Franklin Park—these funds will help projects such as Ripple Church’s community garden and public cleanup efforts. He also announced the Porch Makeover Program, which will support residents in beautifying their porches and hosting porch parties in areas between 12th and 15th streets and between Linden and Gordon streets.  Lehigh Valley News

CRIME NEWS

  • Former Hellertown police chief Robert Shupp admitted to taking $41,000 and forgery and was sentenced to (9 to 23 months in prison) with (3 years probation) for stealing department funds between 2020 and 2023; his sentence was deferred until April 30 so he could set up work release.  Lehigh Valley Live

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Allentown Art Museum will pay $1.4M to buy the old police substation at Tenth and Hamilton streets as officials negotiate final terms for building a new museum with larger gallery and education spaces. The Parking Authority board unanimously approved the bid, and police will remain in the substation until a new station is built.  Lehigh Valley News
