COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Caring Hearts Boutique held its second annual fill-a-bag fundraiser at South Mall last Thursday, letting hundreds fill bags with affordable clothing while supporting the nonprofit's free clothing closet. The event continues today from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. with donations welcomed. 69 News
- ➤ The City of Allentown awarded two mini-grants through the Love Your Block Public Space Improvement program in recognition of Earth Day to support resident-led projects (Bucky Boyle Park and Hibernia Park). City staff will work with residents to kick off the projects in May so improvements finish by Aug. 31. 69 News
- ➤ Officials announced that several streets will be closed for the St. Luke’s Half Marathon and 5k on Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. The closures affect major routes such as Linden Street and Broadway, with police directing traffic (detours posted) to support nearly 2,000 race entrants. 69 News

- ➤ On Thursday, Apr. 23, Air Products declared a quarterly dividend of $1.81 per share in Lehigh Valley. It will pay the dividend on Aug. 10 to shareholders recorded by July 1. 69 News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Whitehall-Coplay School Board met on April 13 to discuss a proposed 2026-27 budget featuring a 4.7% property tax increase (+ each 1% would raise about $500,000) to bridge a multi-million-dollar gap. The final budget will be presented on April 27 as officials review their options. Bethlehem Press
- ➤ On Thursday night at the administration building, the Allentown School District reviewed a $512 million spending plan that proposes a 2.9% tax increase on property owners to boost capital projects. The board also named Nancy Wilt as director — a budget forum is set for May 20 at Hayes Elementary. 69 News
- ➤ Sahil Maher ’26 from Muhlenberg was accepted into the Air Force Dental Corps via the Health Professions Scholarship Program that covers dental school costs. He will begin Penn Dental in the fall and serve on an Air Force base for at least four years as one of three students chosen. Muhlenberg College

- ➤ Fifty thousand LVHN patients with UnitedHealthcare will lose in-network coverage starting Sunday after contract talks broke down between the hospital and insurer. UnitedHealthcare says patients treated for conditions like pregnancy or cancer will have in-network benefits for 90 days. 69 News
