  • Bloom for Women (Easton-based nonprofit) received the 2026 Ed Stout Memorial Award for Outstanding Victim Advocacy at a ceremony in Washington on April 21, and it used the accolade to boost public awareness of its support services for survivors.  Parkland Press
  • Earlier, city leaders and the Allentown Garden Club marked Arbor Day with a tree planted at Fountain Park; today, the Old Allentown Preservation Association with Union and West End Cemetery will plant 44 trees at 10th and Chew Streets starting at 9:00 a.m.  69 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Live Nation's Summer of Live promotion returns Wednesday, April 29, offering $30 concert tickets to acts like Guns N' Roses, Jason Aldean, Lil Wayne, and Pitbull (members get early access until Tuesday, April 28) at select local venues; fans can buy up to four tickets per event while supplies last.  Daily Voice
  • The Society of the Arts has repurposed an 1855 farmhouse in Upper Milford Township into a show house with 18 uniquely designed rooms to support the Allentown Art Museum, and the event will open May 2 and run for two weeks.  69 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Pennsylvania Dutch class graduation took place on April 9 at Jordan Lutheran Church in Orefield where 46 students celebrated their dialect with a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m. In addition, instructors announced a new 13-week session starting Sept. 10 and supplemental guide with grammar materials is in the works.  Parkland Press
  • Parkland officials have set the first day of school for Aug. 24 for the 2026–2027 term, providing nine days of classes before Labor Day weekend and teacher development on Aug. 18, 19, and 20 (as part of county-wide scheduling).  Parkland Press
  • On April 17, education specialists from the Lehigh Valley Zoo brought a ball python, a leopard tortoise and crevecoeur chickens Lola & Atilla the Hen to Phoebe Allentown Healthcare Center (1925 W. Turner St.) where residents enjoyed an interactive animal visit.  Parkland Press
  • Wildlands Conservancy announced summer camps, volunteer roles, and free education events for 2026; the 30th Lehigh River Sojourn runs June 19-21, Summer Camp runs June 8 through Aug. 21, and free programs occur May 5 (for young birders) and May 13 (for meadow tours) at Trexler Nature Preserve.  Parkland Press
  • The Allentown School District approved a balanced 2026-2027 budget with a proposed 2.9% property tax increase to pay for deferred maintenance ($400 to $500 million total, about $71 per homeowner). Other regional districts face bigger tax hikes to cover their budget gaps.  69 News

  • On Apr. 15, PASenator Miller announced that PENNVEST funding will support water infrastructure projects in Lehigh and Northampton counties, including replacing lead service lines in Allentown census tracts (0700, 0800, 1900, 2100 and 9700) to safeguard public health and help keep utility bills steady.  Parkland Press
