- ➤ On Saturday, South Whitehall Township beautified Covered Bridge Park for Earth Day by having 30 volunteers and township workers plant nearly 200 shrubs and trees and spread wood chips throughout the park—efforts that marked the annual celebration held by the township’s parks and recreation department. - ➤ Turning the Tide, a Nazareth-based band known for playing festivals — from Killington to Atlantic City — will open for Gene Simmons Band at Wind Creek Event Center on May 8 at 8 p.m. in Bethlehem. - ➤ Five choral groups from Lehigh Valley will perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City in May and June; the Lehigh Valley Chorale is set for May 11 while Emmaus High School Chorale, Concord Chamber Singers, Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts Touring Choir, and Bangor Area High School Slater Chorale will take the stage on May 26 and June 15. - ➤ Bethlehem's Grist Miller’s House reopened on April 25 with a ribbon cutting to mark its return as a center for local heritage. The 243 year old building, once part of a scrapyard, now hosts the Ralph G. - ➤ Redbud, dogwood, and sassafras trees bloomed as early butterflies like cabbage whites and tiger swallowtails were seen in the area—apple blossoms were in a Bethlehem yard on April 22, and counts of hummingbirds are expected to rise soon.
