GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, the East Penn School District Board approved a preliminary 2026—27 budget with a 4.1% property tax increase that added about $194 to an average home’s annual bill. Officials said the nearly $213.6 million plan stays balanced while facing long term fiscal challenges.  69 News
  • The Lehigh Valley Planning Commission asks local residents to complete an online survey on transportation needs (traffic, roads and bridges) to update the regional plan; responses are accepted until Tuesday, May 5.  69 News
  • PennDOT is enforcing daytime lane closures on several Lehigh County roads (that began Apr. 27 and run until May 1) with crews working from (8 a.m. to 2 p.m.); drivers are urged to check 511PA for traffic updates.  Lehigh Valley Live

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Muhlenberg College poll finds that only 50% of Pennsylvanians rate health care as excellent or good, with 57% showing little trust in federal leadership and 44% now viewing climate change as a crisis—indicating increased stress from current events.  Lehigh Valley Business

  • Upper Saucon supervisors approved a zoning amendment that clears the way for Promenade Park—a 130-acre mixed-use development with plans for up to 1,200 residential units, commercial space, and park areas near the Promenade Saucon Valley shops.   • The St. Luke’s Half Marathon set a new course record on Sunday when Caleb Hershey ran the 13.1-mile race in 1:07:07, beating defending champion Matt Gillette. Olivia Hoeing won the women’s race in 1:23:27 at the event held along Cedar Beach in Allentown.  Lehigh Valley Live
