CRIME NEWS

  • An Allentown man accused of assaulting a pregnant woman in Montgomery County was returned to custody after a Wednesday morning bail review raised his bail to $500,000 cash, with Raymond Bautista (36) allegedly admitting to the attack at (Hatfield Village Apartments) last Thursday.  69 News
  • Former officer Jason Krasley and current sergeant Evan Weaver—accused of rape and sexual assault against prostitutes while working in the vice unit from 2011 to 2018—are set to go to trial after some charges were dropped; they will face formal arraignment on June 23 in Lehigh County Court and remain free on bail.  Lehigh Valley Live

  • Allentown photographer Hub Willson closed his portrait studio after 30 years so he can focus on painting, music and on-location photo work. The 75-year-old will sell his 500 oil paintings for $75 each at a sale Friday plus Sunday and will continue to shoot on location for corporate clients when the weather is nice.  Lehigh Valley Business

  • At DeSales University Tuesday, local leaders spoke at the Lehigh Valley Sustainability Summit to plan balanced growth and keep green spaces safe. The event, run by the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce + the Sustainable Energy Fund, gave awards for new ideas and warned of future energy demands.  WLVR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • New data from the Carnegie Foundation and American Council on Education showed Muhlenberg College in Allentown was classified as a Special Focus: Arts and Sciences school with Lower Access, Higher Earnings—an honor shared by only a few schools. The ranking, based on three years of data, also noted a steady rise in Pell-eligible students over recent years.  Muhlenberg College
  • At a candidate forum held Tuesday at St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, six school board hopefuls shared their backgrounds, priorities, and ideas to support teachers, improve school safety, and boost student well-being. The forum was organized by the Crime Watch Presidents’ Council and moderated by the League of Women Voters of Lehigh County—setting the stage for a primary on May 20 and a November election.  Lehigh Valley News

  • The Pennsylvania Department of State is accepting applications from registered voters who want to serve as poll workers on May 20 to help ensure a smooth primary election—applicants must complete a training session and be available from before polls open at 7 a.m. until after they close at 8 p.m. High school students in good academic standing may also volunteer with parental and school approval, and workers will earn between $75 and $200 per day.  69 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA announced a multi‐state recall on three types of frozen bread produced by Upper Crust Bakery after glass fragments were found on products shipped to six states—including Pennsylvania. The firm voluntarily began the recall on April 12—consumers are advised to check their freezers and return or discard the affected items.  Daily Voice
