  • At the PCFLV Hearts of Gold Gala, 350 guests gathered at Centennial Catering and Conference Center as the Pediatric Cancer Foundation raised $350,000 to fund a new family room — part of its capital campaign — and will host its 2026 Luau On The Links Golf Outing on May 15.  Lehigh Valley Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Muhlenberg’s Department of Theatre and Dance announced its 2026-27 season of productions featuring large-scale musicals, staged readings, and modern dance showcases scheduled from October 2026 to April 2027 across campus venues.  Muhlenberg College
  • At the historic John B. Shimer House in Emmaus, the SOTA Show House returns with eighteen local design firms reimagining all 23 rooms of a 1855 farmhouse. EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Catasauqua Area School District was chosen for Pennsylvania’s new career-readiness initiative that helps middle school students explore eight career pathways with local professionals. Catasauqua Middle School holds its annual achievement night today at 6:30 p.m. (featuring interactive career activities and student projects).  Lehigh Valley Press
  • The Whitehall-Coplay School Board advanced the 2026-27 budget with a 4.7% property tax hike and plans for staff cuts, with notifications expected by the end of May. Committee meetings will begin on May 11 and a regular board meeting is set for May 18.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • Thomas Jefferson University will expand its academic programs into Lehigh Valley in Fall 2026, offering a new onsite nursing program with DNP-Nurse Anesthesia courses and online graduate degrees, while opening a respiratory lab at Lehigh Valley Hospital (Cedar Crest) to boost the local healthcare workforce.  69 News
  • Thomas Jefferson University announced a major expansion to boost health care education in the Lehigh Valley. Starting this fall, the college will offer onsite nursing courses at the Health Network Center (Center Valley) and launch additional academic programs along with a new student housing community in Allentown.  Lehigh Valley Live

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At 7:40 p.m., 18,000 Northampton residents lost power from a substation issue while 2,400 in Lehigh experienced outages from a blown fuse; utility crews expect to restore power by 8:00 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. respectively, with updates from Met-Ed and PPL.  69 News
  • Supporters and volunteers from The Sanctuary At Haafsville spoke up on Wednesday night at Fogelsville Elementary School—expressing concern that PennDOT's I-78 project will reduce space on the shelter’s 7-acre property in Upper Macungie, with work set to start in 2030 and public comments accepted until June 5.  69 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • At Penn’s Peak, the ACS telethon raised $283K and earmarked $10K for a Hope Lodge room to support patients; local groups and volunteers also helped provide Uber and Lyft rides for those needing treatment while boosting cancer research efforts.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • Lehigh County coroner Dan Buglio said suicide cases are rising with around 20 reported in 2026; local groups (hosting a free Mental Health Awareness Walk) will hold an event in Allentown on May 16 to support those in need.  69 News

  • Jefferson & Lehigh Valley Health Network launch the Lehigh Valley Classic, a golf event expected to boost the local economy by between $50 & $100 million and support three local charities.
