  • PCFLV raised $350,000 at the Hearts of Gold Gala held recently at Centennial Catering and Conference Center in Center Valley, where nearly 350 guests enjoyed dinner, dancing, and a live auction of children’s artwork (including a $21,000 mosaic) to support a new family room for pediatric cancer care.  Parkland Press
  • The Rotary Club of Allentown West and Parkland School District will host the second annual Flags for Unity event from May 21 to 25 at Parkland High School, where hundreds of American flags will honor military members, veterans, and first responders. CULTURE NEWS

  • The Lehigh Valley Chorale will celebrate its 10th anniversary today with a concert named 'The Road Home' at Miller Symphony Hall from 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. joined by the Lehigh Valley Chamber Orchestra, featuring Handel’s 'Zadok the Priest,' a cappella set, and an original commissioned piece.  Lehigh Valley Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lehigh County 4-H offers three summer day camps at the Ag Center (4184 Dorney Park Road) for youth. The beginner archery camp holds an introduction night on May 26 at 7 p.m. while Cloverbud runs June 22 to 24 and Junior Vet Camp runs July 21 to 23; registration closes May 19.  Parkland Press
  • High school cosmetology students from LCTI offer face painting, hair tinsel and braiding at the Lehigh Valley Zoo every Friday in May to raise funds for animal welfare + gain hands-on experience. Cosmetology instructor Kelly Fries supervises the event to help students build client skills.  69 News

FINANCE NEWS

  • PPL Corporation reported Q1 earnings of $0.60 per share (GAAP) and $0.63 per share from ongoing operations, and it reaffirmed its full-year guidance range of $1.90 to $1.98 per share. The utility plans to invest $5.1 billion in network improvements.  69 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Planning Commission approved resident Nathan Kuster’s request to convert a garage bay into a commissary at 3375 Route 309 in Orefield after required fire suppression and electrical inspections were met. Swagelok representatives presented building expansion plans at 4245 Independent Drive in Schnecksville, with additional land development permits to follow.  Parkland Press
  • At a workshop on April 21, Parkland School District board members discussed a proposal for a 10-year tax abatement plan to encourage the new Eli Lilly manufacturing plant near Fogelsville, with the proposal set for review at the May 12 meeting. SPORTS NEWS

  • Allen High School baseball team rallied for a 2-1 win over Nazareth in 8 innings on May 7, clinching its first playoff victory since the mid-1990s.
