  • Tuesday night, the Volunteer Center celebrated 40 community projects at DeSales University, where local businesses paired with nonprofits to upgrade spaces like Roosevelt Elementary; the 17-year challenge has completed 398 projects with 160 nonprofits & 120 businesses making lasting community improvements.  69 News

  • Mosqitter, a mosquito control company developing chemical-free technology, won the $20,000 Venture Idol grand prize today at a competition hosted by Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Northeastern Pennsylvania.   • Rick Safi of King Kone has bought the 2nd Street Tavern (33 N. 2nd Street) in Coplay and is renovating it as The Coplay Cabin. The new space, designed to honor the venue’s history while serving upscale bar fare, will open in the first week of July.  Lehigh Valley Business

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Northampton Area School District approved a preliminary 2026-27 budget on Monday by a 5-4 vote that raises taxes 4.2%, cuts 30 positions (administrators, aides, teachers, tech staff) and reduces salaries by $2.6 million to trim a $12.7 million deficit; a final budget vote is in June.  69 News
  • On Tuesday night, the Parkland School District board approved a 2026-27 budget that raises property taxes by 3.5% to help close a $15.6 million gap and tabled a tax incentive aimed at attracting a $3.5 billion Eli Lilly plant at Fogelsville Corporate Center, with a final vote next month.  69 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • East Penn Manufacturing held its first Power2Recycle drive-thru event in Lyon Station on April 25, collecting 307 vehicles and 828 lead batteries. The event offered double reimbursement and family-friendly giveaways to encourage local recycling and environmental care.  69 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The League of Women Voters will host a panel discussion on data center growth tomorrow from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Lehigh Valley Active Life Center in Allentown — speakers will cover state legislation, planning reviews and environmental impacts to empower voters with key information.  Lehigh Valley Live

HEALTH NEWS

  • Officials at Miller-Keystone Blood Center announced the annual Local Leader Awards on May 12, recognizing groups that collected 200 or more lifesaving donations. The awards honored 20 organizations (including East Penn Manufacturing and Pediatric Cancer Foundation) and were celebrated at DeSales University on March 3.  Bethlehem Press

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • St. Luke's University Health Network has acquired the Cornerstone Presbyterian Church property at 5900 Old Bethlehem Pike in Upper Saucon Township for $2.2 million, placing it next to an existing medical building. The health network is considering programming for the 2.11-acre site as the church prepares to relocate to 3717 Station Avenue.  69 News
  • On Tuesday, May 12, Allentown planners recommended the RS Residences mixed-use project at 51 N. Front St., which will add 210 apartments and 4,500 sqft of retail space to the riverfront development. The revised plans offer improved parking & traffic flow details.  69 News
