  • First Presbyterian Church of Allentown commissioned 19 members to join a week-long medical mission in Honduras that will begin soon—team members will provide essential medical care as part of the church’s outreach.  Parkland Press
  • Boutique for Hope marks its 50th anniversary with a collection and sale event supporting cancer patients and caregivers at 3801 Brookside Road Macungie (former Bethany United Methodist Church). The event runs from May 12 to May 30 with varying times for collections and sales.  Parkland Press
  • Lehigh Valley Zoo welcomed two new residents on Thursday — a common ostrich named Gabrielle and a plains zebra named Forrest — arriving from Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. Staff will soon introduce the animals to existing residents during scheduled animal care sessions.  69 News
  • Ramona, an 11-year-old Black Labrador retriever who comforted children testifying in court, retired on April 24 at Lehigh County Courthouse; her caretaker Kimberly Silvestri plus courthouse staff gathered to honor her service.  Parkland Press

  • ArtsQuest’s new $30 million Creative Factory powered by PPL is under construction at the old Banana Factory site in Bethlehem, offering 36 artist studios + nine classrooms, a comedy theater and more; it will have a soft opening this November with a grand celebration planned for January.  69 News
  • Musikfest has launched its Spring Savings Sale to offer discounted tickets for select musical performances in Allentown. Music lovers can secure reduced-priced tickets for upcoming shows during the spring event.  69 News
  • A local nonprofit that plays war tunes is asking for donations to update uniforms as it prepares for America’s 250th anniversary. It will perform at an Armed Forces Day parade Saturday in Wyomissing, a Memorial Day event in Allentown on May 25, and five July 4 shows in the valley.  69 News

  • RV travelers face higher fuel costs this summer as an average fill-up now costs $230, up from $155 last year, explained Brandon Ziegler of Ziegler's RV. He advises budgeting for an extra $75 for every 500 miles of travel.  69 News

  • Three Colombian sisters inspire future students at Lehigh Carbon Community College amid a 20% drop in international enrollment. Natalia, graduating with a business degree, leads campus tours while her siblings support student government and full-time study (Executive Director Jennifer Aquila praised their efforts).  69 News
  • The Saucon Valley School District Board approved a preliminary $57 million budget with a 1% tax increase on Tuesday for the 2026-2027 school year (raising annual taxes by about $55 for a home assessed at $100,000).  69 News
  • Lehigh Valley schools won statewide honors in the What’s So Cool About Manufacturing Contest held in Harrisburg, with Nazareth Area Middle School winning first+ Saucon Valley Middle School second and Manheim Township third, while Springhouse Middle School earned Statewide Viewers Choice recognition; the contest boosts interest in STEM careers.  Lehigh Valley Business

  • A new Pa. law requires schools to include AEDs and emergency plans at sporting events and to meet the safety standards within three years. The law, named after Greg Moyer, aims to enhance response for cardiac emergencies among student-athletes.  69 News
