EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lehigh Carbon Community College received a $1 million grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education to expand its dual enrollment program for high school students in key career fields — including Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Education, Healthcare and Technology. The college will use the funds to offer more introductory courses and hands-on learning activities that help students earn college credits while in high school.  Lehigh Valley Business

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Allentown mayor Matt Tuerk signed an executive order on Thursday at Bridgeside Estates that directs city officials to fast-track housing projects proposing 20 or more apartments—aiming to ease a long-standing shortage and speed up review times so that more affordable homes can be built. The measure, the first such order in over a decade, seeks to encourage developers and lower costs amid rising rents and home prices.  Lehigh Valley News
  • Lehigh County commissioners narrowly approved a tax break for a brownfield at 300 Furnace Street in Emmaus that will help Westrum Development build 144 apartments—using the Local Economic Revitalization Tax Assistance program to reduce property taxes for five years. The plan also requires the developer to give $25,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank’s Seed Farm program.  WLVR
  • Allentown and Hanover Township plan to close a two-mile gap on the D&L Trail—work will include adding a guardrail along Bradford and Dauphin Streets to improve safety. Bids will be released this year and the project is set to finish late 2026 as part of a connection linking 140 miles of trail.  Lehigh Valley Live
