ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Three residents escaped a North Whitehall house fire just after 9 a.m. on Wednesday when a Dodge pickup crashed into a utility pole, sparking a power line that caused the blaze and left about 500 homes without power— the driver was cited for careless driving.  Lehigh Valley Live

CRIME NEWS

  • A pedestrian was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash on Industrial Drive in Bethlehem on May 15, and police later identified the driver after finding the suspect vehicle on Avon Road — no arrests have been made.  Daily Voice

  • Allentown will host Fiesta on Hamilton as a free block party on Sunday, May 18 from 1 to 7 p.m.—the event will take over Hamilton Street from 9th to 11th Street and feature live performances by Oro Sólido and Los Adolescentes, local food vendors, and family health activities.  WLVR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new report from Lehigh County controller Mark Pinsley warned that a planned 10% cut to Medicaid reimbursement rates may force tax increases and service cuts since the county could face a $7 million gap at Cedarbrook and lose $10 million in mental health funding—Medicaid funds support nursing home care and services for residents with serious conditions.  WLVR
