  • Beloved firefighter April Lubenetski, 47, of Walnutport died at 8:28 p.m. on May 19 after nearly a year-long battle with occupational cancer — her death was declared a line-of-duty loss. A fire procession and funeral services are planned for May 31 to honor her 25 years of dedicated service.  Daily Voice

CRIME NEWS

  • On May 21, shots were fired near William Allen High School and Francis D. Raub Middle School, causing both schools to lock down until about 9:15 a.m.—police chief Charles Roca said more details would be provided.  Lehigh Valley Live
  • Lehigh Township police arrested 52-year-old Willie Barham after he put a gun to his live-in girlfriend's head and beat her at a home on Rhododendron Drive around 3:50 a.m. Wednesday—she suffered cuts, swelling, and bruising and was taken to the hospital while he faces charges along with outstanding warrants from Luzerne County.  69 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Allentown City Council forwarded legislation on Wednesday night to transfer nearly $1.7 million for a traffic signal improvement project along American Parkway and Basin Street (from Susquehanna to Airport Road) that will add 11 intersections and improve pedestrian safety. The council also advanced a bill for low-cost temporary safety measures and approved contracts for basketball courts, fire cadet turnout gear and a lowboy trailer, with the traffic project now referred to the public works committee.  69 News
