CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Allentown police responded Wednesday to reports of shots fired near William Allen High School after a 911 caller said kids were present and one was shooting, finding a woman with a gunshot wound to her left leg and two men exchanging fire—one suspect was taken into custody and authorities seized a handgun slide, a magazine with 16 live rounds, and more ammunition. 69 News
- ➤ Allentown police arrested a 38-year-old man on Wednesday at about 1:30 p.m. after seizing roughly 56 grams of cocaine, 43 grams of fentanyl, 1 pound of marijuana, 102 Xanax pills, 7 Clonazepam pills and 3 amphetamine pills as well as packaging materials and a digital scale from his apartment on North Morris Street—he now faces four felony counts of possession with intent to deliver, five misdemeanor counts of simple possession and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. 69 News

- ➤ Allentown School District announced that Building 21 will be renamed Bridgeview Academy of Health, Science, Innovation, and Technology for the upcoming 2025-26 school year after community surveys and school leaders helped choose the name—which honors the view of the historic Eighth Street Bridge and calls for $150,000 in new signage. The board also approved a moment of silence for the Sept. 11 anniversary and an employment contract for Herman James as chief of talent management as part of a balanced district budget. 69 News

- ➤ Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin Holihan urged courts to offer counseling and trauma sensitivity training to jurors who view graphic evidence in trials—he said many jurors face painful memories without proper support. Attorney Maraleen Shields and other officials also called for clearer guidance, updated jury pamphlets, and increased per diem pay to help lessen the emotional burden during service. - ➤ Urban Residential Properties proposed a 16-story high-rise for the waterfront at 249 N. - ➤ Allentown Central Catholic boys lacrosse won its second straight D-11 2A championship when James McCarthy scored a long-range goal with 22.6 seconds left to give the Vikings a win over Moravian Academy at Lehigh University's Ulrich Sports Complex—the final score was nine to eight.
