COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Macungie Farmers Market celebrated its 20th anniversary on May 21 on Lumber Street with nearly 20 vendors, food trucks, and live music. Shoppers receive a loyalty card for stamps (rainy days earn double stamps) and (monthly raffle prizes) will be awarded each month until Oct. 29.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • The Lehigh County Sheriff’s Office reported that retired K-9 Nevie passed away. The German Shepherd — imported from Germany — served with valor from June 7, 2017 to her retirement on May 2, 2025, conducting daily sweeps, assisting incidents and performing community outreach with her handler Deputy Richard Garner.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • American Legion Post 215 held a traveling ceremony on Memorial Day, May 25 to honor fallen veterans at memorials in Catasauqua and North Catasauqua. The event included a procession and a luncheon for veterans and community members.  Lehigh Valley Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • ArtsQuest has announced the free concert series at Levitt Pavilion SteelStacks presented by Lehigh Valley Health Network, running now through Sept. 12 with shows on Thursday to Saturday + select Sunday nights at 7:30 p.m. The season includes festivals, a first-ever CountryFest, and a free family movie series.  Lehigh Valley Press

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in the Lehigh Valley fell slightly this week even as they remain near four-year highs amid rising demand for summer travel (the average statewide price dropped four cents to $4.597 while Lehigh Valley recorded $4.478 on May 26).  Lehigh Valley Business

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Salisbury Township School District board approved its proposed final budget — now open for public review — which totals about $50.7 million in expenditures during its May 13 meeting. Key contracts and appointments for the upcoming school year were confirmed at 1140 Salisbury Road in Allentown.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • Cole Stuchko was named Student of the Week at Emmaus High School on May 27, 2026. The senior (captaining varsity teams and managing a local business) earned multiple awards and will attend Alvernia University to study civil engineering.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • Whitehall-Coplay School District approved a reorganization plan cutting over 30 positions (including teaching, secretarial and support roles) to address a $6 million deficit. A 4.7% tax increase and a final vote in June have fueled staff and community concerns.  69 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Controller Jeff Glazier died Monday, May 27th and city leaders praised his honest service & careful oversight of Allentown finances. Mayor Matt Tuerk and council members remembered him for his steady presence at City Hall and around the Rose Garden where he was often seen with his dog Artemis.  Daily Voice
  • Fire crews from Western Salisbury, Lower Macungie and South Whitehall practiced aerial ladder operations at Lehigh Valley Hospital on May 18. The training exercise helped teams learn how to reach different roof levels using coordinated maneuvers.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro unveiled GRID Standards on Wednesday, May 27 to set strict accountability for data center development across the state. The standards require developers to demonstrate real community benefits, secure tax incentives, and qualify for fast-track permitting + pending legislation codifying the rules.  Lehigh Valley Business
