COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Upper Macungie Township is building a 188,000-square-foot Community Lifestyle Center at Grange Park that will offer sports, educational programs and meeting spaces, built with glue-laminated timber for a sustainable design—this is the first engineered timber building of its kind on the East Coast. Construction began in September 2024 with site work and concrete pouring completed, and crews will continue work until summer 2026.  Lehigh Valley Business
  • Two guided paddle events will take place soon as the 29th annual Lehigh River Sojourn runs June 7-10 at Lehigh Gorge State Park with registration closing June 2 — while the 30th annual Delaware River Sojourn offers guided canoe and kayak trips with camping and all equipment from June 14-20 as spots fill quickly.  Lehigh Valley Live

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, Pen Argyl High School’s Green Knights celebrated their final day of school as seniors walked past character banners and the school earned National School of Character status — the only Pennsylvania high school among nine nationwide to win the award. The school added a new freshman service-learning requirement and 11 culture-of-character principles that helped secure the honor.  69 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • The U.S. Food and Drug Administration expanded a recall on cucumbers from Bedner Growers due to a Salmonella outbreak affecting 15 states and causing illnesses, with products sold at Walmart and Albertson’s. Consumers who bought the recalled items are advised to discard them and clean any surfaces that came in contact with the produce — Pennsylvania is among the affected areas.  Lehigh Valley Live
