ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A three-vehicle crash closed the right lane on Route 22 westbound shortly after 9 a.m. on Tuesday and caused heavy traffic until around 10:15 a.m.—injuries were reported, though details about the number and severity have not been released.  69 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Three minors were charged as adults for a December 7 shooting and carjacking in Allentown when police responded to reports of an AR-style pistol fired from a stolen Jeep at pedestrians and a carjacking near Trexler Middle School; Marquee Bradley Carney, Naseer Washington, and Amir Sims-Watson (16, 16, and 17) now face charges including aggravated assault and firearm offenses with bail set at $150,000 for Carney, $200,000 for Sims-Watson while Washington is held in custody on another matter.  69 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • In May, Lehigh Valley International Airport had a 2.6% rise with 87,448 passengers and a 52.6% jump in air cargo with almost 28.7 million pounds moving through, showing a strong start to summer travel. Earlier this month, airport leaders started building a new 145-room Courtyard by Marriott Hotel that will add a bar, lounge and meeting space to improve convenience.  Lehigh Valley Business

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, June 24, a scorching heat wave set records across the Mid-Atlantic with Allentown reaching a new high of 97 degrees and several stations breaking or tying previous marks—overnight lows at the airport also set a record at 73 degrees. The extreme heat warning remains in place today with temperatures expected in the mid 90s to near 100 and a cold front arriving today afternoon.  Lehigh Valley News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Allentown is changing pool hours and cooling support for Tuesday and Wednesday due to limited capacity and extreme heat. City pools will only allow residents with proof of address while the Fire Department will manage a cooling station at Cedar Beach Park from 11 a.m.—7 p.m.  69 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Tim Mosebey from West Lehigh Veterinary Care in Breinigsville said dog owners must keep pets cool during the heat wave because dogs cannot sweat like people—hot pavement can quickly burn their paws and lead to heat stroke. He urged owners to walk dogs only in the early morning or evening and to take them to a cool area and the vet if they show signs like heavy panting, vomiting, or red gums.  69 News
