  • The Lehigh Valley will host many July 4 events with fireworks, parades, and live music. In Allentown, Cedar Beach will show fireworks at 9:15 p.m. (with games and food vendors available from noon to 6 p.m.) while nearby sites like Coca Cola Park offer additional family events (including early field entry at 8:45 p.m.).  Lehigh Valley News
  • Families and firefighters gathered at Ontelaunee Park in New Tripoli on Sunday for the 2nd annual Firefighter Appreciation Picnic, enjoying live bands, food, and support for local first responders. The Northwest Lehigh Firefighter Foundation (formed after the December 7, 2022 tragedy) plans a memorial and splash pad (with support from Eight Oaks Farm Distillery's Hero's Cut Bourbon sales) to honor the brave personnel in the future.  69 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Allentown police arrested 18-year-old Brinley Capellan-Lopez after he allegedly stabbed a Burger King coworker in the throat when officers responded to a call at the restaurant at 6:14 p.m. on Saturday night—he is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault, along with obstruction of justice for a May 21 shooting—while the victim was taken to Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest hospital.  69 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • AP Government and Economics teacher Patricia Cunningham from Nazareth Area High School was selected as one of five nationwide for C-SPAN's 2025 Teacher Fellowship program—she will work virtually with the network's Education Relations team today through July 25 to develop digital educational content for C-SPAN Classroom and receive a $1,000 stipend.  Lehigh Valley Live

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A new study found that 69,000 children across Pennsylvania attend schools and use parks near major roadways with dangerous diesel emissions — among the 639 sites identified statewide, more than two dozen are in the Lehigh Valley with 23 in Allentown. The report urges state and local leaders to replace diesel vehicles with electric ones to help protect child health.  WLVR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Maintenance and repairs on the South 25th Street Bridge over the Lehigh River began on June 24 and will last three months, reducing lanes to one in each direction while crews work weekdays. The project is part of a state preservation effort with a $4.6 million contract awarded to J.D. Eckman, Inc. — it will affect local traffic in Palmer Township and Glendon.  Lehigh Valley Live
