  • Women attended the Bloom in Style luncheon at Saucon Valley Country Club to support Bloom's work with survivors of sex trafficking and to raise funds and awareness through a silent auction, served lunch, and talks. Organizers displayed a Barrier Wall of survivors' challenges and dreams—encouraging the community to help break down these obstacles.  Parkland Press

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new report shows Lehigh University contributed $1.4 billion in economic activity to the Lehigh Valley during fiscal 2024, supporting one out of every 31 jobs in the area. The university employed 5,470 staff and indirectly supported more than 14,000 jobs in research and start-up companies—boosting the local economy.  Lehigh Valley Business

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Facilities crews at Salisbury Middle School are painting, scraping, and refinishing floors and walls to prepare for the school year (2025-2026). Director Bill Brackett said workers are also updating fire alarms and switching to digital safety systems (to help keep everyone safe when school buses arrive).  Lehigh Valley Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • North Whitehall Township's new municipal building is nearly finished with final landscaping, masonry work and cleaning completed, although the elevator installation (expected mid-August) remains delayed. At the July 7 meeting, local farmer Heather Skorinko called for zoning changes to ease restrictions on craft distilleries while residents nearly reached 500 signatures on a petition asking for Supervisor Dennis Klusaritz's resignation.  Parkland Press
  • Allentown and Reading mayors announced a strict crackdown on illegal swimming—along with littering and unsafe gatherings—in local waterways after recent incidents including a 14-year-old drowning at Jordan Park, adding that violators will face fines and enhanced patrols.  Lehigh Valley Live
  • City council members recommended a $300K grant on Wednesday—expected to unlock nearly $1M in additional funding—to support the new Downtown Allentown Alliance that aims to boost the downtown area's appeal. The nonprofit plans to hire neighborhood ambassadors to monitor issues and provide suggestions as it works to attract more visitors to Center City.  WLVR
  • Gov. Josh Shapiro signed into law a bill to repeal Pennsylvania’s Sunday hunting ban on July 17th, marking a historic change for local hunters. HEALTH NEWS

  • HNL Lab Medicine has grown to run over 50 patient centers in eastern and central Pennsylvania (which include satellite labs and mobile units) and now delivers digital tools for ordering tests and viewing results online.
