  • Whitehall Township Public Library is launching a busy summer reading series starting with teen night at 4 p.m. July 25th for grades 6-12 and continuing with a mindfulness session on July 29th, a magic and juggling show on July 30th, houseplant bingo on July 31st, and other events for all ages—some of which require registration. Produce donations will also be accepted each Monday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to benefit local families.  Lehigh Valley Press

  • South Whitehall Township authorities are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of Allentown man Jack Henriquez, 79—he was pronounced dead yesterday afternoon at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Ceda.  69 News
  • An Allentown man, Jack A. Henriquez, 79, died at 1:35 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest after suffering multiple blunt force trauma injuries in a vehicle collision near Broadway and Springhouse Road in South Whitehall Township; police and the district attorney’s office continue to investigate the accident.  Daily Voice
  • A freight train hit a tractor-trailer at 11 a.m. on July 22nd at South 12th and Vultee streets in Allentown +with no injuries reported+ as police and Norfolk Southern investigate the collision and the rail line reopened hours later.  Lehigh Valley Live

CRIME NEWS

  • District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan and Bethlehem Police Chief Michelle Kott said Jose Vladmir Jerez, 25, of Allentown was arrested on charges linked to the Oct. 13, 2024 hit-and-run that killed 21-year-old Ezequiel Hernandez-Cartagena—he was arraigned on July 22 with bail set at $100,000—and faces multiple charges including homicide by vehicle.  Lehigh Valley Press

  • The Catasauqua Area School District said goodbye to several longtime employees who retired at the end of the 2024-25 school year. Retirees including sixth-grade science teacher David Linton, special education teacher Kristine Kostura, and transportation worker Steve Matto ended careers marked by decades of service—leaving a legacy within the community.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • LCCC will launch a new Leadership Success Series this fall — a four-level training program designed to help professionals boost their leadership skills. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Township Manager Melissa Wehr announced that the next movie in the summer movies in the park program will be 'Bernie the Dolphin', a Canadian family adventure drama, shown July 25 at Sherwood Park (1915 Sherwood St., Allentown) at dusk with free admission and sponsorship by the Lehigh Valley International Airport; Wehr advises attendees to bring chairs and blankets. At the July 16 council meeting, officials extended the garbage/recycling contract, approved a general obligation note of $508,706.82 for sundry purposes, and released maintenance securities for two local development projects.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • On July 9, twenty community members spoke at the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners meeting to raise concerns that ICE agents detained people at the courthouse without proper warrants—alleged incidents raised by several locals, including stories of wrongful detention.
