  • On Thursday, Lehigh Valley Zoo broke ground on a $10 million expansion project that will add a new barn and an accessible playground set to complete by fall — the barn is expected to finish in November. The multi-phase project will also include plans for an education center and splash pad to enhance the zoo experience for visitors in our community.  Lehigh Valley News

  • The Lower Macungie Fire Department received a $5,000 donation from Tex’s will—Tex, who owned Tex’s Smokin’ BBQ and died in December, supported first responders. Family and friends gathered on July 17 at Brandywine Station 81 to honor his legacy.  Lehigh Valley Press

CRIME NEWS

  • Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan said no charges were filed after a fatal shooting on July 6 at Fifth and Hamilton streets that left former Kutztown University basketball player Tamir Johnson dead when video shows he chased a Prius and swung a bat at its driver—John Doe—who fired one shot before driving away after calling 911.  Bethlehem Press

  • Supply Chain Solutions in Breinigsville filed a WARN notice with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor stating it will close its warehouse at 8150 Industrial Boulevard by Oct. 10—resulting in layoffs for 101 workers.  Lehigh Valley Business
  • Supply Chain Solutions— a Memphis-based logistics company—will close its warehouse at 8150 Industrial Boulevard in Upper Macungie on October 10, which will result in 101 layoffs as noted in a WARN Act notice filed with Pennsylvania’s Department of Labor.  Lehigh Valley Live

HEALTH NEWS

  • Cedar Crest College and Community Health Centers of the Lehigh Valley are partnering to improve healthcare access in Allentown by giving nurse practitioner students real-world experience and adding evening clinic hours for community members. The partnership will be officially announced Saturday — with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Hamilton Street clinic marking the opening of a new community dentistry office with Delta Dental joining the event.  Lehigh Valley Business
