EDUCATION NEWS

  • A groundbreaking ceremony for a $7.2M early childhood facility was held Tuesday in Allentown — funded by a partnership between Finanta and Truist Financial to renovate an existing childcare center and school run by Resurrected Community Development Corporation. The facility will open in Spring and support early education and family services for over 500 children and 30,000 locals — marking a key community development.  Lehigh Valley Business

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Heavy rain and thunderstorms caused flooding and more than 1,000 power outages yesterday in Lehigh County, leaving vehicles stranded in Salisbury Township and on Broad Street in Quakertown. Township police advised drivers (to avoid high water) and reported no injuries.  69 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • During the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners meeting on Wednesday night, Chair Geoff Brace explained that the state’s overdue budget could force the county to cover up to $50M in unreimbursed expenses if payments are further delayed. County officials are planning to address the funding gap by borrowing money or using the stabilization fund while also approving a five-year capital plan with $121.8M in proposed spending.  69 News

  • Owners of Westminster Homes bought a property on 212 to 214 N. 8th Street to create a 'mommy and me' recovery home that will offer safe housing and support for mothers battling addiction and their children.
