ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 62-year-old man died after his car collided with a Lanta bus at West Tilghman Street and North Ott Street on Monday, Aug. 18 around 7:50 a.m., and he was rushed to Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest where he was pronounced dead at 8:41 a.m. with an autopsy scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 19 to determine the cause of death. - ➤ A Slate Belt Regional Police officer was injured in a head-on crash in Plainfield Township when a 2008 Honda Accord driven by a 29-year-old from Wind Gap crossed into the northbound lane and struck his marked 2023 Dodge Durango at about 2:17 a.m. on Aug. 17—state police said the officer sustained minor injuries while the driver was treated and taken to a hospital. - ➤ On Aug. 17, St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Allentown held a festival to raise funds for families hurt by a suicide bomb attack during a church mass in Damascus that killed 25 and injured more than 50. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On August 14, 2025, Allentown firefighters received a new EsoGuard test—detecting Barrett's esophagus—for early cancer screening at Mack Southside Fire Station as part of their department’s benefits; the measure comes after concerns over higher esophageal cancer risks linked to their work. The program was offered following recent line-of-duty cancer deaths, and results will be shared within two to three weeks. Lehigh Valley Live
