- ➤ The Great Allentown Fair will begin Aug.27 and run through Sept.1 with new traffic rules that restrict cars between Liberty and Chew streets and require visitors to use Gate 2 near 17th Street—Advance discount tickets for rides, admission, and shows are available now at the Fair Box Office located between the Ritz Barbecue and the Grandstand concert venue. - ➤ Chef José Garces announced his second restaurant, Okatshe, will open in downtown Allentown in mid-September—located at 947 W. Hamilton St. and connected to The Moxy Hotel, the new izakaya will serve Japanese small plates, sushi, and sashimi while hiring staff now. Lehigh Valley Business

- ➤ Cheap Trick will perform at Wind Creek Event Center at 8 p.m. on October 22 after headlining Allentown Fair last year—tickets will be on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 22. Jason Bonham will lead a Led Zeppelin tribute on November 15 at 8 p.m. to mark the 50th anniversary of a major album release. WLVR

- ➤ Parkland School District is planning a major expansion at Parkland High School that will add 26 classrooms, 12 science labs, new offices, and improved facilities, and the district will choose a steel work contractor on Oct 21—bids are due Sept 30 with selections for other trades by December. Construction is set to begin in early 2026 and finish by the end of 2027. WLVR
- ➤ Brandy Rentko, an English language arts interventionist at Raub Middle School, was named Allentown School District's 2024-25 Teacher of the Year at a Monday convocation at PPL Center. She has taught at Raub for nearly 25 years and built strong ties with students, families and fellow teachers. WLVR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Allentown City Council approved issuing up to $134 million in bonds to fund capital projects including a new fire station and police headquarters, with bonds sold in chunks from 2026–28. The city will present its spending plan to state and federal partners before moving forward with a private, negotiated sale through leading investment firms. 69 News
- ➤ Palmer Township will redirect sewage from 165 homes to Bethlehem’s Shimersville Road treatment plant by December when a new gravity system replaces a 50-year-old pump station—Bethlehem director Edward Boscola said current user rates will not change. The project includes 200 linear feet of new 8-inch main, 300 linear feet of sewer reconstruction on Sheridan Drive, and two new manholes as part of an update to Palmer’s Act 537 plan. WLVR
