COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Wildwater Kingdom closed for the season and will reopen Sept. 12 for fall festivities—guests can look forward to the scheduled seasonal events. The park has ended its summer run and plans to welcome visitors with new fall activities.  69 News
  • On the final day of summer, people enjoyed swimming, picnicking, and playing volleyball at Cedar Beach Park Pool in Allentown, Nazareth Borough Pool, and Beltzville State Park. Families gathered for Labor Day celebrations—swimming and cookouts—to mark the season's end.  69 News
  • In July, a local bar hosted a belt sander race that drew people from across Berks County and the country—raising a record amount for a local non-profit.  69 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Derrick Colon led township police on a high-speed chase on Newburg Road in Upper Nazareth, ran a red light, lost control of his sport bike, and was thrown from it—police later arrested him, found a package with suspected marijuana next to his motorcycle, and took him to a local hospital.  69 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Supervisor Charles Zeke Bellis died Monday—Palmer Township cancelled today's Board of Supervisors meeting and will fly the municipal flag at half-staff until his interment to honor his service.  69 News
  • State lawmakers proposed changes to allow semiautomatic rifles for hunting big game like deer and bear—one lawmaker suggests a three-round limit while another favors six rounds. The Game Commission remains neutral on the proposals—lawmakers want Pennsylvania to match hunting practices found in other states.  Lehigh Valley Live
