COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Allentown’s historic Bogert’s Covered Bridge, built in 1841, will close for a $2.57M restoration starting Sept. 15 as crews repair its sag, repaint its siding, and install a new slate roof. The project will keep the landmark closed to traffic — including pedestrians — until at least August 2026 with temporary walkways provided.  Lehigh Valley Live

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Allentown’s Neighborhood Improvement Zone has generated over $1b in private investments, fueling downtown office, retail, and mixed-use growth. Its tax distribution system—designed to spur redevelopment and construction—has supported projects like The Waterfront and attracted major employers downtown.  Lehigh Valley Business

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • PennDOT changed traffic patterns at the Route 309 and Tilghman Street interchange in South Whitehall Township on Monday, with northbound traffic now sharing a ramp and Tilghman Street lanes reduced to one and detours set for left turns. The $86.4 million project—covering bridge replacements and signal installations while keeping the south ramp closed until September 2026—continues until March 2030.  Lehigh Valley Live
  • A federal award of $1.2M was announced on Monday to help LANTA improve rider amenities and efficiency along its Blue and Green bus routes in the area. The Carbon Reduction Program will fund better bus shelters, bike racks, electronic signage, and intersection upgrades—steps that aim to boost ridership and reduce carbon emissions.  WLVR
  • Bogert’s Covered Bridge will close Sept. 15 for about a year as crews begin a $2.57 million restoration—repairing its sagging midsection and installing a new roof. City officials and local groups have secured funding to keep this historic icon safe for future generations.  WLVR
  • Benchmark Civil Engineering will ask the Allentown City Planning Commission for more time to build a 154,000-square-foot warehouse on an adjacent property in Commerce Park—an area tied to the former Mack Trucks assembly plant that first received approval in 2016. City officials will also review a drive-thru coffee shop proposal from 7 Brew Coffee at 2952 Lehigh St. amid ongoing traffic concerns.  WLVR
