BUSINESS NEWS

  • Palmer Township board of supervisors will hold a public hearing on September 15 at 7 p.m.—township officials will consider an ordinance that would allow Comcast to build its network in the area. If approved, Comcast will start construction soon and offer service to some addresses by the new year.  69 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dorney Park will host its Halloween Haunt event—bringing spooky fun and themed attractions to local guests as the park prepares family-friendly seasonal activities.  69 News
  • Art in the Park returns today at West Park at 16th and West Turner streets, featuring more than 130 artists who will show a variety of work—from ceramics to sculpture—and include 30 new participants plus six live demo artists. The free event is supported by local community groups and food vendors and includes performances near the historic Allentown Masonic Temple.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • ArtsQuest ended its successful summer concert series at Union Terrace Park on Friday with performances by 1970s soft rock group Orleans and local act DMC Duo. The event celebrated extensive renovations to the historic amphitheater—funded by $382,000 from the Trexler Trust and city funds.  Lehigh Valley News

  • Jefferson Elementary School students began the 2025-2026 school year on Aug. 25 as Principal Sam Hafner welcomed them and the school’s Kindness Garden set a bright tone—photos show students smiling on their first day.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • Salisbury Township School District welcomed students to the 2025-2026 school year on August 26 as teachers reviewed classroom and cafeteria rules. Staff took photos outdoors to capture the start of school and mark a smooth beginning.  Lehigh Valley Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Weisenberg Volunteer Fire Department announced that 75% of its firefighters held state or national certifications through the Participating Department Program, a milestone reached by only 56 departments statewide. The unit set a goal to reach full certification by 2028 — underlining its ongoing commitment to quality training and service.  Bethlehem Press
  • At the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners meeting in August, residents like Ed Angelo and Mary Tomlinson raised concerns about a new rule that would force virtual speakers to register 24 hours before commenting. Commissioners also addressed ICE issues, confirmed appointments, and set dates for budget hearings while sending a letter to the General Assembly about the state budget impasse.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • The East Penn School District Board approved a tax resolution at its Sept. 8 meeting that protects taxpayers from penalties on misdirected 2025 real estate tax payments made through online bill pay services—tax collectors are exonerated and affected taxpayers must provide proof for refund requests by Oct. 31.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • On Thursday night, South Whitehall Township Planning Commission recommended a new Planned Innovation, Research and Technology Overlay District to update industrial zoning—designed to attract tech jobs with data centers and campus-style facilities, with a vote scheduled for Oct. 15. In a separate meeting, Parkland School District reviewed plans to expand its high school building and consolidate its transportation center as part of its Vision 2030 plan.  69 News
