  • At the Great Allentown Fair on August 30, contests included a Pampered Chef Torte Cake contest, pig races, and a scrapple eating contest where Sean Yeager won first place by eating 3.88 pounds. The fair also hosted a Marine Corps fitness test challenge and a pig race in which a Robinson’s Racing Pigs representative gave a winning gift to a Muhlenberg College student—showing a range of community activities.  Parkland Press
  • Allentown’s Jordan Park finished its 10-year renovation on Saturday with a ribbon cutting on N. 6th Street, marking the completion of a project led by Mayor Matt Tuerk and community advocate Colin Yoo. The new skatepark is now among the best in Pennsylvania—bringing young people together in a safe space.  69 News
  • The Neffs Volunteer Fire Company held its second annual Firetrucks and Frisbees disc golf tournament on Sept. 6 at Neffs Valley Park in Schnecksville (3545 Neffs Laurys Road) to support local fire department programs, and players competed on an 18‐hole course choosing discs for different distances.  Parkland Press

  • Trans-Bridge Lines expanded its service to Newark Liberty International Airport on Sept. 8 and resumed its Cape Liberty Cruise Port run in Bayonne (customer requests led to adding these options after United Airlines ended its bus service).  Parkland Press
  • An Allentown company called Consumer Rating was named among the 100 fastest-growing private companies on the 2025 Inc. 5000 list yesterday—its ranking based on revenue growth from 2021 to 2024 among 29 Northeast businesses.  Daily Voice

  • Allentown's West Park hosted its 50th annual Art in the Park on Saturday—an event that helped local artists show their work.  69 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lincoln Leadership Academy Charter School in Allentown broke ground on an expansion at 1414 E. Cedar St in October 2023 — the project added 25 classrooms, a 220-seat cafeteria, and a state-of-the-art science lab, plus a second gymnasium and new auditorium to serve students in grades four through eight.  Lehigh Valley Live

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Whitehall Township is moving forward with a new planning ordinance that sets rules for data centers and large technology projects in the industrial zone—staff revised the draft using input from advisory boards and community discussions, and a public hearing is scheduled for Oct. 15.  Parkland Press
  • At the second bimonthly meeting in August, residents raised concerns over a new rule that requires virtual participants to register 24 hours in advance before commenting—Ed Angelo and Mary Tomlinson described it as an unconstitutional restraint that will take effect in October. Commissioners added the registration feature to their webpage, approved personnel and budget measures, and discussed the state budget impasse during the meeting.  Parkland Press
  • Upper Macungie Township Supervisors approved a comprehensive parks, recreation and open space plan on Sept. 4 after a yearlong process that involved over 1,120 public responses. The plan—guided by Township Recreation Director Ryan Griffith—sets the framework for future park improvements and community projects.  Parkland Press
