  • KidsPeace will hold its 40th Annual Golf Classic at Woodstone Country Club in Danielsville on Monday, October 6. Spots remain available for golfers to register for a round on Woodstone’s scenic course — a key effort in raising funds for programs that support children and families in the Lehigh Valley.  Bethlehem Press

  • Local author Laura Long discussed her new book When Did I Become My Parents' Parent? on 69 News at Sunrise Wednesday as she shared personal advice on caregiving—drawing on over a decade of work at Fellowship Community in Whitehall.  69 News
  • Pennsylvania amusement parks earned national praise as USA Today ranked nearly half of the top 10 Halloween attractions within the state. Allentown’s Dorney Park hosted Halloween Haunt while Hersheypark and Knoebels Amusement Resort were also recognized, with Knoebels taking the top spot.  Lehigh Valley Live

ECONOMY NEWS

  • PPL Electric is asking the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission to raise its distribution rates, and if approved, residential customers using 1,000 kWh will pay about $13 more a month while commercial and industrial bills will also go up; the change will take effect on July 1 and is needed to fund about $300 million in grid improvements — the first request of its kind since 2016.  69 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lehigh Career Technical Institute carpentry students, led by teacher Tom Shirkness, measured the old bridge on Sept. 17 and are teaming up with Lynn Township (with help from township Supervisor Ron Jerdon and Road Master Matthew Henderson) to replace the 20-year-old wooden footbridge in Ontelaunee Park with a new one scheduled for early November.  Bethlehem Press

FINANCE NEWS

  • Members 1st Federal Credit Union has launched a Budget Impasse Program to help families cope with financial stress from the federal shutdown by offering hardship loans, skip-a-pay options, and penalty-free withdrawals—measures designed to serve as a safety net for affected members. The program will support government employees, contractors, and others facing payment challenges amid funding disruptions.  Lehigh Valley Business

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt reminded eligible voters that the registration deadline for the Nov. 4 municipal election is Oct. 20—residents can check and update their voter records online to prepare for mail ballots if needed.  Bethlehem Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • LVHN dedicated the Peter and Odete Kelly Center for Personalized Cancer Immunotherapy at Lehigh Valley Hospital—Cedar Crest on Sept. 30 with a $12 million gift that started a center to test treatments that teach the immune system to fight cancer. The center will lead research on new cancer vaccines, clinical trials, and personalized immunotherapy methods.  Lehigh Valley Business
