- ➤ Allentown will host the 26th Annual Lehigh Valley Buddy Walk this Saturday to support the Eastern Pennsylvania Down Syndrome Center, with about 800 participants set to walk a half-mile near Cedar Crest College from noon to 5 p.m.—families will tailgate and food trucks and activities like bounce houses and arts and crafts will add to the community event. 69 News
- ➤ South Whitehall Township merged Family Safety Day and Sunset to Summer to hold Community Day at Covered Bridge Park near the basketball court on Sept 27—offering vendor fairs, crafts, inflatables, safety demos and food trucks while officials, sponsors and vendors joined the event. - ➤ PPL requested a rate increase that could add 13 dollars to monthly bills and sought approval from state regulators with new rates set to begin on July 1 if approved. Some customers like Mike Caballero said their electric bills had risen nearly 100 dollars over the past 5 years while the company argued that the extra funds would improve the electric grid and reduce outages. 69 News

- ➤ ArtsQuest is hosting Oktoberfest at SteelStacks from today through Oct 5 and again from Oct 10-12 in Bethlehem—its 15th year event that features German contests, live polka bands and Schuhplattler dancers. New attractions include a pretzel toss at 5 p.m. Oct 5, stein-holding challenges, bratwurst eating contests, dachshund races and a 5K run with some contests requiring registration. Lehigh Valley News
- ➤ Williams Township Historical Society, founded in 1977 and rooted in the Bicentennial, will hold its final meeting on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 3 p.m. at St. John’s Church — its records and historical publications will move to the Fairview Schoolhouse for preservation under a new Township History Committee, with $17,000 set aside to support future projects as the baton passes in early 2026. - ➤ Northampton County Executive Lamont McClure presented a proposed 2026 budget that holds real estate taxes at 10.8 mils—marking seven years of unchanged rates—while cutting spending by 7.3% to maintain key services and repairs. The balanced $501 million plan now goes to county council for consideration. 69 News
- ➤ City Council approved a $200K contract on Oct. 1 for Bethlehem-based WSP USA Inc. to help write a climate action plan that will lower greenhouse gas emissions and protect natural resources in Allentown. The plan will guide efforts to meet Vision 2030 goals—joining Easton and Bethlehem as they work to boost environmental safety. Lehigh Valley News
- ➤ Allentown developer Nat Hyman ended his lawsuit after city crews bulldozed a homeless camp near his properties, which he said were harmed by trespassing and waste. He sued after asking city officials like Mayor Matt Tuerk for help and settled without receiving any compensation—cleanup crews are still working in the area. Lehigh Valley News

- ➤ LVHN will hold drive-thru flu shot clinics that let people get vaccinated without leaving their car. Clinics include a drive-thru at Hecktown Oaks on Oct. 11 (9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.) and at the Integrated Health Campus on Oct. 12 (9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.), with a walk-in clinic on Oct. 18 at the Health Center at Carbon from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. 69 News
- ➤ Patients at St. Luke's University Health Network were cheered by volunteers dressed as superheroes including Batman, Superman, and Captain America — responsible for uplifting spirits during their visit. The volunteer nonprofit Humble Heroes, which began in 2015, continues to inspire hope through these lively appearances. 69 News
