COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, twelve Toyota Tundras loaded 10,000 pounds of donated food at Coca Cola Park and are driving the food to Second Harvest Food Bank in East Allen Township as part of the annual Lehigh Valley Food Drive—teams from IronPigs and local organizations helped load the trucks. The food bank will use the donations to supply its 200 pantries that serve 100,000 people each month.  69 News

  • Honeygrow’s marketing director Amy DePaoli and chef Kim Robinson cooked with Eve Russo on Friday morning in Salisbury Twp.—They prepared dishes like Loaded Greek and Cobb Salad and several stir-fry recipes that highlight the chain’s focus on protein and seasonal flavors.  69 News
  • Bob Malick—known as BK Bob—was named Burger King's General Manager of the Year among more than 7,000 candidates and earned a trophy and $10,000 prize; he led his Lehighton restaurant to a 40% sales increase since 2020.  69 News

  • Swifties gathered on Friday at Shankweiler's Drive-In in North Whitehall Township to watch a special film screening of 'The Official Release Party of a Showgirl' for Taylor Swift’s new album—fans enjoyed the premiere music video and behind‐the‐scenes clips while dancing and singing.  69 News
  • SteelStacks in Bethlehem is hosting its 15th annual Oktoberfest— a free event that celebrates German traditions with beer gardens, dancing, games, and special foods like a Bavarian burger. Doors open at noon today as festivities continue through the weekend and next.  69 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Boys & Girls Club of Allentown won NASA’s VIRTEX video competition with its Space Cadets entry that showed local youth learning about space and STEM during a summer program— the win will let the club attend a two-day NASA symposium at Goddard Space Flight Center. The program was guided by planetary geologist Kirby Runyon.  Lehigh Valley News

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Friday, Jay’s Local on Liberty Street became Allentown’s first Blue Zone—approved restaurant as owner Lyell Scherline cut the ribbon and introduced healthier menu options that include special dishes inspired by the Blue Zones Project; he hopes more local eateries will follow suit to boost community health.  Lehigh Valley News
  • Riverton Rehabilitation opened its first in-house dialysis unit today as part of a multi-million-dollar renovation that modernizes its skilled nursing services. The six-chair unit—run in partnership with Dialyze Direct—will support its Chronic Kidney Disease Management Program.  Lehigh Valley Business

SPORTS NEWS

  • Emmaus High School boys soccer team started the season with three shutout wins, beating Cumberland Valley, Whitehall, and Allen—each game showing strong defense and goalie performance. The Hornets will play at Pocono Mountain East on Wednesday, host Central Catholic Friday, and then face Pocono Mountain West on Monday.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • After its first loss on Tuesday, the Emmaus girls tennis team bounced back with wins over Saucon Valley and Nazareth to improve their record to 15-1 overall and 13-1 in conference play—then they will face Parkland on Monday, Blue Mountain on Friday and compete in the EPC Championships on Wednesday.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • Parkland golfers built momentum in the high school postseason after finishing their regular season with a win over Emmaus on Sept. 9. Eight Trojans advanced from Monday’s District 11 qualifier at Northampton Country Club — led by senior Carter Willis and junior Charlie Gold — and will compete next week for a district title.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • Jacob Rapp and Landen Benner led Parkland at Monday’s East Penn Conference Championships at Great Bear Golf Course in Stroudsburg by shooting 7-over par 79 to tie for seventh place—helping the team finish a 13-2 regular season tie for second behind unbeaten Nazareth and place fifth in the league tournament.  Lehigh Valley Press
