COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, a loyal dog named Eeyore rescued an injured elderly woman—earning him many pets and local praise for his quick act of bravery.  69 News
  • Whitehall Township Fire Department’s Haunted Hayride opened on Oct. 3 at the Parkway (4689 S. Church St.) and will run every Friday and Saturday until Nov. 1 to offer a spooky event that supports the fire department. Local families and school groups are enjoying costumed characters (including firefighter Tim Vilbas dressed as a pig) as part of the festivities.  Lehigh Valley Press

BUSINESS NEWS

  • NEIF, a local lender that helps improve energy efficiency, bought RKB Capital’s share in the group that runs its RebateBridge program—founded with RKB in 2018 and having advanced over $360 million in rebate funds. This purchase gives NEIF lower capital costs and streamlined operations as it launches new utility rebate programs, including funding for New Mexico's upcoming electrification rebates.  69 News
  • ESSA Bank has served Eastern Pennsylvania for over 100 years and supports local businesses, schools, and community projects. EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Sept. 22, students in grades six and seven at Lower Macungie Middle School met award-winning authors Ruta Sepetys and Steve Sheinkin, who discussed their new book 'The Bletchley Riddle' plus shared research from Bletchley Park. LMMS Librarian Alice Boulrice arranged the event and the authors answered questions + signed books for students.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • David L. Gogel was appointed to the NASD board for Region 3 at a special meeting on Oct 6 at Northampton Area High School+ he fills the vacancy left by Brian McCulloch and will serve until December.  Lehigh Valley Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A freeze watch is in effect tonight through Friday morning in parts of Pennsylvania including Lehigh County—temperatures could drop to between 26 and 31 degrees, potentially damaging crops and outdoor plumbing. Residents are urged to protect sensitive vegetation and take precautions against the frost.  69 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At Oct. 2 Upper Milford Township meeting, township officials approved Resolution 2025-034 to move forward with the Kline’s Island Sewer System project + Supervisor Angela Ashbrook and other officials discussed future steps including outreach to fire companies and hiring a new public works employee.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • Lehigh County officials warn that delayed state payments are putting county programs at risk, and they may use a bank line of credit or tap a state loan program by mid-November. The board also plans a 2026 budget that keeps taxes steady, adds funds for affordable housing projects & supports a science center grant to bolster local services.  69 News
  • The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation informed residents that Lower Macungie Road will be closed from Oct. 13 to Oct. 27 — with Little Spur closing from Oct. 13 until Nov. 24 — and detour routes will be clearly marked.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • Salisbury Township is updating its comprehensive plan and asks residents to share input via an online survey due by Oct.31—officials will hold a Coffee and Conversation at 10 a.m. Oct.15 at the school district building and plan more public engagement into spring and summer.  Lehigh Valley Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lehigh Valley Health Network will offer free flu shots through drive-thru clinics starting Oct. 11 at Hecktown Oaks and Oct. 12 at the Integrated Health Campus. The clinics serve anyone aged 6 months and up and include a food donation drive—an effort that has provided nearly 215,000 flu shots over 27 years.  69 News
