COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Allentown City Council voted Wednesday to rename the 500 block of Hickory Street as Jerry Christian Way—honoring the local basketball legend who mentored youth at community centers. Residents praised his work and said his guidance kept many young people on the right path.  69 News
  • WFMZ-TV and Lehigh Valley Phantoms will host the 11th Annual coat drive on November 14 at the PPL Center Plaza to help local Salvation Army programs by accepting new or gently used coats. The event will run from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. — volunteers will assist drop-offs via a drive-thru lane on Hamilton Street while the Phantoms face the Springfield Thunderbirds.  69 News
  • The City of Allentown will host its annual Lights in the Parkway from Nov. 28 through Jan. 6 with over 200,000 LED lights on display—featuring drive-through and walking days on Dec. 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, Jan. 5 and Jan. 6. BUSINESS NEWS

  • Amazon will hire 11,500 seasonal workers in Pennsylvania for the holiday season and post job openings each week through December—these jobs pay over $19 an hour as part of a $1B plan to boost wages and benefits nationwide.  Lehigh Valley Business

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Oak Ridge Boys, a Country Music Hall of Fame quartet, will perform at Easton's State Theatre at 6 p.m. on March 15, 2026 (ticket prices are from $65 to $105) and tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. today (box office at 453 Northampton St.).  Lehigh Valley News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On September 19, Muhlenberg’s Career Center held the Connections Conference to let students meet alumni and recruiters — including representatives from St. Luke’s, Olympus, Lutron and Lehigh County. The event helped students learn new networking skills and explore different career paths.  Muhlenberg College

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A water main break flooded North 13th and Liberty Streets on Wednesday around noon and crews fixed a 12-inch line while restoring water service by that evening—two local businesses closed during the incident. The Lehigh County Authority confirmed there is no boil water advisory.  69 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Jefferson Health—parent of Lehigh Valley Health Network—announced it will lay off between 600 and 700 employees due to financial challenges. CEO Joseph Cacchione said the move is needed to sustain its mission and invest in patient care for the future.  Lehigh Valley Business

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • In September, the Lehigh Valley housing market showed strong demand as 589 closed sales increased by 3.7% and the median price rose to $352,500 while new listings climbed 17% and homes sold in 19 days despite a 3.7% drop in inventory. Carbon County saw 53 closed sales with a median price of $255,000 as falling mortgage rates below 6.5% spurred increased buyer activity.  Lehigh Valley Business
