- ➤ AAA East Central held a free vehicle battery wellness clinic on October 23rd at its office on Downyflake Lane in Allentown to help drivers check their vehicle batteries without charge. 69 News

- ➤ Ben Franklin Technology Partners in Bethlehem helps tech start-ups with funding, mentorship, and office space at Tech Ventures on Lehigh University's Goodman Campus — the center has supported 562 companies and 21,700 jobs and will soon expand to add more wet-lab space for biotechnology. - ➤ The Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry announced its first PA Small Business of the Year Awards—a new effort to honor local small businesses for growth, community work, and innovation. - ➤ Shift4 in Upper Saucon Township is planning to acquire the North American assets of Bambora — Bambora Inc., Bambora Holding Corp, Bambora Corp and Worldline SMB US — to expand its payment processing portfolio, and the deal will close in the first quarter pending customary approvals. 69 News

- ➤ The Macungie Minstrelaires will perform Gone Country at 7 p.m. today at Lower Macungie Middle School (6299 Lower Macungie Road) with additional evening shows on Oct. 25, 31 and Nov. 1 and matinee performances on Oct. 25 and Nov. 1; a portion of the proceeds will benefit Lily’s Hope. - ➤ Firefighters from Salisbury Township’s east and west side companies visited local schools to teach preschool through fourth grade students fire safety and proper emergency responses. The programs featured gear-change demonstrations, hands-on hose line practice and safety tips on lithium batteries — a routine annual event to help young students stay safe. Lehigh Valley Press
- ➤ Muhlenberg College earned a green rating score of 96 out of 99 on Princeton Review’s Top 50 Green Colleges list for 2026 — ranking No. 3 in Pennsylvania and No. 31 nationally — after a survey of over 25 sustainability metrics. The college continues to boost its campus-wide green initiatives through innovative projects and long-standing efforts in sustainability. Muhlenberg College
- ➤ Allentown School District officials said the state budget impasse is forcing spending cuts that limit resources for roughly 16,000 students as Superintendent Carol Birks noted the district depends on $333 million in state funding each year—while the board set a public hearing Nov 17 for a new K-8 school and approved a contract with SitelogiQ to streamline future construction projects. 69 News

- ➤ On Oct. 13, Weisenberg Township board met where Chairperson Linda Gorgas announced an executive session and approved a joint salt bid from Eastern Salt Company at $83.50 per ton for 600 tons while accepting the West Hills Court insurance claim release after two accidents. Township manager Brian Carl said the community center logo contest runs until Oct. 31 and that payment number three of $186,023 was approved as the contractor works on the new facility—despite possible delays with roof truss installation and expanded turf work. - ➤ Jefferson Health—the parent company of LVHN—announced on October 23 that it will lay off 600 to 700 employees, about 1 percent of its 65,000-person workforce, due to financial struggles. Details on the affected departments and locations have not yet been released. Lehigh Valley Press
- ➤ Attorney General Dave Sunday warned seniors and their families yesterday about a Medicare scam that mailed unprescribed durable medical equipment so scammers could bill Medicare or patients+ he urged checking Medicare statements and reporting any unexpected deliveries. Lehigh Valley Press
- ➤ A few weeks ago at the Frank Banko Educational Conference Center, LVHN provided sensory bags—packed with noise-reducing earmuffs, weighted blankets and cue cards—to EMS teams from Lehigh, Northampton and Monroe counties so they can better support patients with autism and behavioral health needs; 175 kits were picked up by 21 stations.
