COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites will hold its 23rd Turkey Trot 5K and Fun Walk on November 29 at 9 a.m. from the historic 1869 Luckenbach Mill—runners, joggers and walkers will follow a scenic route through Bethlehem’s landmarks—registration costs $40 until November 28 and $45 on race day with proceeds helping local historic projects.  Bethlehem Press
  • Carpentry students built a new footbridge at Ontelaunee Park in Lynn Township, Lehigh County—providing park visitors with improved access.  69 News
  • Union Lutheran Church in Schnecksville will host houseplant bingo on November 9 with doors opening at 11:30 a.m. and bingo beginning at 1 p.m.—the game will include special rounds for rare plants, basket raffles and a 50/50 drawing while the kitchen serves lunch. St. John’s United Church of Christ will also hold a walk-in basket social on November 7 and 8, run a clothing and household item drive for Recycle Local through November 16, and NOVA will accept orders for a fundraiser pickup on November 26 for Thanksgiving dinner.  Bethlehem Press

  • Allentown-based FLSmidth Cement has rebranded as Fuller Technologies after its acquisition by Pacific Avenue Capital Partners—honoring its legacy while setting a new course in cement production solutions. CULTURE NEWS

  • Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe announced its schedule of tribute bands, country stars and comedy acts through spring 2026—a plan that starts with Gary Allan on March 12 and continues with shows in November, December and into the new year.  Lehigh Valley Live
  • ArtsQuest held a beam signing on Oct. 16—marking a key milestone for the $32 million Creative Factory powered by PPL in SouthSide Bethlehem that will include artist studios, a 155-seat comedy theater and other spaces. Officials said hard hat tours, a ribbon-cutting and a public opening will follow late 2026 or early 2027.  Bethlehem Press
  • On Sept. 26, the National Museum of Industrial History honored Pennsylvania veterans by dedicating an art piece by acclaimed artist and Chief Petty Officer Joe Pisano in front of the Steelworkers’ Veterans Memorial. Nearly 100 veterans, former steelworkers and Bethlehem police officers attended the event and veteran Captain David Christian was the first to sign the piece titled 'Stand Together—a Veterans’ Flag,' which was made with 6,000 drywall screws as a symbol of unity and resilience.  Bethlehem Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wilson Area School District board sent a letter with the Pennsylvania School Board Association urging the General Assembly and Gov. Shapiro to pass a complete state budget so that over $3 billion in education funding can be released. The resolution—passed Monday—calls for full public education funding, repayment of borrowing costs, and standardized cyber charter funding to help districts plan for the future.  WLVR
  • On Tuesday at Louis E. Dieruff High School, ASD teachers became students through a new program with Juilliard performing arts conservatory — they will learn creative skills to refresh their teaching methods.  69 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Officials for St. Luke’s D&L RaceFest in the Lehigh Valley are cutting single-use plastics by replacing water bottles with recyclable metal cans — medals now come in paper and over 420 single-use jugs will be swapped for reusable water containers. The event set for Sunday will feature four races that start in Allentown and Bethlehem and finish in downtown Easton with more than 2,000 racers expected.  WLVR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, November 4, donations were accepted at the Lehigh Valley International Airport’s departures level at 3311 Airport Road to support federal workers unpaid during the government shutdown — the drive aimed to fill an airport bus with non-perishable food, toiletries, and baby products, with airport staff volunteering to help run the event.  WLVR
  • On November 3, 2025, the borough swore in Matthew Simkovic as the new assistant chief for Dewey Fire Company—he joined in 2016 and served as chief from 2021-23—and replaced John Delmore, who will move but continue to help as needed. Chief Rick Delmore reported 378 responses from January 1 to Sept. 30 and said the company will hold recruitment events to address a volunteer shortage.  WLVR
  • On Tuesday, Northampton County voters cast their ballots before polls closed at 8 p.m. as high enthusiasm marked the election, and a high wind watch will be in effect today from 7 p.m. through Thursday morning in parts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey where gusts up to 60 mph may bring tree damage and power outages.  69 News
