  • PPL Foundation announced $100,000 in emergency funding to help agencies close gaps in food access in eastern and central Pennsylvania—over 60 nonprofits will use the funds to keep food pantries stocked.   • Motorcycle riders held the final Tucker’s Toy Run on November 1 by riding from Tri-Boro Sportsmen Club at 21st and Canal streets to St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital where thousands of donated toys were delivered to children.   • The extended government shutdown has reduced SNAP benefits to half the usual amount while local food banks are stepping in to help families facing food shortages.   • Singer Taylor Acorn will perform at Archer Music Hall in Allentown this Saturday at 7 p.m.—tickets cost $33 as she promotes her new pop-punk album Poster Child. The event offers fans a glimpse of her return to the sound that first inspired her musical journey.  WLVR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Unofficial results from Tuesday's vote show that four new school board directors—Evette D’Amore, Cereta Johnson, Dianne Michels and Denzel Morris—will join the board in December for four-year terms while current board member Nick Nicholoff wins a two-year term. Four incumbent directors did not run for re-election, leaving the board with mostly new faces for the next term.  Lehigh Valley News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • PJM, the power grid operator for 13 states including Pennsylvania, said it has enough capacity to serve 67 million people this winter but warned that rising electricity demand may squeeze generation margins if new power is not added. The grid operator will carry out extra tests and double site visits at 30 plants—ensuring power remains reliable during extreme weather.  Lehigh Valley Business
