COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Downtown Allentown Alliance launched its Block by Block Ambassadors program on Friday in Center City and hired veteran operations manager Jim Stang to lead the team along Hamilton Street. The ambassadors will greet visitors, provide local directions, and report maintenance or safety issues to help keep downtown welcoming—its launch was supported by $804,000 from city, state and private partners.  Lehigh Valley News
  • Earlier on Friday night, WFMZ and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms wrapped up their 11th annual coat drive at the PPL Center in Allentown—donations poured in from local community members. The Salvation Army will distribute the donated coats on December 3rd—ensuring many families have extra warmth this winter.  69 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Air Products has submitted a proposal to build three data centers with 2.6 million square feet on its 194-acre former headquarters site in Upper Macungie Township — the plan recycles a 2023 warehouse layout and shows lower traffic counts while it awaits review from the township planning commission and board of supervisors.  WLVR
  • Astound Business Solutions—based in the Lehigh Valley—has opened its Community Impact Awards to invite small business nominations nationwide for a chance to win one year of free internet service; entries must be submitted by Dec. 31 with winners announced on or about Feb. 1.  Lehigh Valley Business

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bethlehem’s Christkindlmarkt opened Friday with festive lights and a new Winter Wonderland expansion that adds food stands and holiday charm—offering free family hours from 5 to 8 p.m. and running every weekend until December 21. The 33rd annual event draws local visitors with traditions that blend old-world and modern holiday spirit.  69 News
  • Holiday lights will transform Lehigh Valley Zoo and Coca-Cola Park while Bethlehem hosts festive markets, carriage rides and Santa visits to celebrate the season. Families can enjoy live music, themed attractions and special displays scheduled from mid-November through December—each event offers unique local traditions.  Lehigh Valley News
  • Illumination at Coca-Cola Park returned this season with 1.5 million lights and new experiences including carousel rides and curling lanes — the event runs from Nov. 14 through Jan. 3 and was announced by IronPigs General Manager Kurt Landes.  Lehigh Valley News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • South Whitehall Township planners approved an expansion plan for Parkland High School on Thursday night that adds new classroom space, an expanded athletic entrance, and a cafeteria upgrade—along with parking improvements that will create 11 new bus parking spaces and add more car parking. The project is part of the school district’s Vision 2030 plan to address capacity needs and still awaits final approval from the board of commissioners.  69 News
  • Muhlenberg’s competitive programming team, known as Nerd Club, took third place in the Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges Northeast Region competition in late October—beating larger schools like Villanova. Team members Aidan Hamilton ’26, Abhilasha Talwar ’28, and Max Trimmer ’27 built on past wins and will prepare for upcoming contests.  Muhlenberg College
  • Salisbury Elementary School announced its Student Leadership Lighthouse Team for the 2025-2026 school year. The team includes student leaders (from kindergarten to fourth grade) who will help guide school programs during the new academic year.  Lehigh Valley Press

  • On November 14, Lehigh Valley Zoo served A-Treat soda in aluminum cans at its Winter Lights Spectacular to reduce single-use plastic—A-Treat had reintroduced its popular flavors in new fridge-friendly cans that support the zoo’s #kNOwplastics campaign.  Lehigh Valley Business

HEALTH NEWS

  • Firefly Veterinary Urgent Care opened in Blandon earlier this year to provide urgent pet care and fill the gap between primary veterinarians and overburdened emergency hospitals. The practice was launched by three emergency veterinarians — Drs. Gina Watzka, Casey Dignan, and Victoria Orlando — and they will expand services soon.  Lehigh Valley Business

  • The Lehigh Valley Phantoms updated their arena at PPL Center with a new center-hung videoboard — spanning nearly 2,200 square feet and showing 13.3 million pixels — that gives fans more than three times the picture detail compared to the old screen.  Lehigh Valley Live
