COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Oct. 26, members of Jordan Lutheran Church in Orefield participated in 'God’s work. Our hands.' service projects that included a Launch Lunch, writing 113 Christmas cards for military families, and assembling 19 blankets for the homeless and children. They also prepared Advent care bags, ran a toilet paper drive for The Lehigh Conference of Churches, and gathered school supplies for Family Promise to support local residents in need.  Parkland Press
  • Jordan United Church of Christ in South Whitehall Township is hosting a free Thanksgiving meal today from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.—volunteers prepared turkeys, stuffing, and sides to serve hundreds of locals.  69 News
  • The Salisbury Township Recreation Advisory Committee announced the annual tree lighting ceremony is set for Nov. 29 from 5-7 p.m. at Franko Park, where residents will see live reindeer from Spruce Ridge Reindeer Farm, meet Santa and Mrs. Claus, and enjoy free treats+ greet local police and fire department representatives.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • Lehigh Valley Active Life at 1633 W. Elm St. in Allentown will host a full slate of December events in the Trexler Room—offering dance sessions on Dec. 6, 13, 19, and 27, along with creative arts, exercise classes, and group programs where fees include refreshments.   • The Schnecksville Community Fair will host a holiday shop and quilt raffle at the fire company banquet hall at 4550 Old Packhouse Road, Schnecksville, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 6. The fair will draw an Amish-made queen size quilt—made in Juniata County—at 2:30 p.m. with proceeds to support fair costs.  Parkland Press
  • The 15th annual Tucker’s Toy Run delivered thousands of toys to St. Luke’s pediatric unit on November 26—800 to 900 bikers rode from the Tri-Boro Sportsmen Club to the Bethlehem campus in Fountain Hill. The event raised $550,000 over 15 years and handed out more than 60,000 toys—marking a bittersweet end to the long-running tradition.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • LCTI seniors repainted a wooden container with a new design for PEEPSFEST at SteelStacks. The design — showing a sunset sky, Bethlehem furnaces, and PEEPS chicks — and the event — featuring a 5:35 p.m. chick drop and fireworks — will mark the family-friendly celebration in Bethlehem.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • Redners on Lehigh Street was busy on Thanksgiving Eve as locals hurried to buy turkeys, hams, and sides for their holiday meals. Residents like Vasant Dudhwala and Abby Lozano with her daughter shared how their shopping and cooking bring family together.  69 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Musicians from the Elm Street Jazz Workshop paid tribute to The Blues Brothers at Lehigh Valley Active Life in Allentown on November 26 (the day before today) by performing in black suits and fedoras. The community band, made up of both professionals and amateurs, encouraged fans to join the themed event by coming in costume.  Parkland Press
  • Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum in Allentown will host The Mouse Before Christmas puppet show featuring Pip the Mouse on Nov. 28, 29 and Dec. 26, 27 at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The event also offers Thomas the Tank Engine activities in the Thomas Fun Room and is funded by the Pennsylvania Tourism Office, continuing a local holiday tradition dating back to 1962.  Lehigh Valley Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Veterans were honored yesterday at Lower Macungie Middle School in a program that featured red carnations from the cadence choir and music by the seventh and eighth grade band—Gunnery Sgt. Joseph Ramirez, a custodian at the school, shared his story. Principal Sallie Yencho welcomed guests as the ceremony celebrated the service and sacrifice of veterans.  Lehigh Valley Press

  • State Sen. Nick Miller and Whitehall Township officials unveiled new playground equipment and park renovations at Fullerton Memorial Park on Nov. 13 after Miller secured an $80,000 state grant. The upgrades are expected to benefit local families for many years.  Lehigh Valley Press
