COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Allentown firefighters urge residents to be careful when heating homes and hanging holiday lights as cold weather sets in. Capt. Jonathan Hammel from the Allentown Fire Department says to avoid overloading outlets, running cords under carpets, and leaving dry trees unwatered—using working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors is essential for safety.  69 News
  • Local advocates and officials will meet Sunday at 3 p.m. at Congregation Keneseth Israel (2227 W. Chew. St.) to talk about homelessness and ways to provide more affordable housing. Panelists including city commission co-chairs and community leaders will discuss the causes and potential fixes for the crisis in the Lehigh Valley.  WLVR
  • Yesterday on Giving Tuesday, Community Action Lehigh Valley urged donations to help families who struggled after SNAP benefits were suspended. The group ran the Sixth Street Shelter and the Second Harvest Food Bank — collecting vital items and cash donations to meet a 40% surge in needs.  69 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Players of the Stage, a nonprofit Christian Youth Theater group celebrating 25 years, will perform 'A Christmas Carol' at Citylight Bible Church in Allentown on Dec. 4, 5, 6, 12 and 13 at 7 p.m. and on Dec. 6 and 13 at 2 p.m. — the free show will ask for a voluntary donation to fund new equipment.  Bethlehem Press
  • Bush, a British rock band from the 1990s, will perform at Wind Creek Bethlehem at 8 p.m. on Feb. 20. Tickets cost $55 for general admission standing and $95 for seated wings—sales begin at 10 a.m. Dec. 5 at the event center and the box office at 77 Wind Creek Blvd.  Lehigh Valley News
  • The locally produced film Saint Nick of Bethlehem is available to rent on Amazon Prime for $2.99 and for purchase at $9.99—its holiday scenes filmed in Downtown Bethlehem, Nazareth, Bath and Northampton add local flavor. Bethlehem native Danny Roebuck co-wrote, co-directed and stars in the movie, which plays at Frank Banko Alehouse until Dec. 4.  Lehigh Valley News

  • The Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce is hosting a ribbon cutting at Children’s Art Classes — located at 327 South Cedar Crest Boulevard — today from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., marking the center's grand opening with over 40 art disciplines, homeschool options, workshops, and birthday parties for children in Allentown and nearby areas.  Lehigh Valley Business
  • LoriAnn Fehnel was sworn in as the newest member of the Whitehall-Coplay School Board on Tuesday—ending two unsuccessful campaigns as she built support door to door and on social media. She promised to work the fiscal budget properly and within the district’s means to address residents’ worries about tax hikes.  WLVR

  • At the Nov. 12 Lehigh County Commissioners meeting, Commissioner Geoff Brace highlighted strong support from high school students who helped during the election and noted that local residents, including Marilyn Mercado, raised concerns about food insecurity while key bills were approved. Commissioners will ask Chief Fiscal Officer Tim Reeves to share a financial summary at the next meeting and plan additional sessions on Dec. 10 and Dec. 18.  Bethlehem Press
