COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office & Forensics Center partners with the Allentown Area Ecumenical Food Bank to collect nonperishable food items during the holiday season; donors can drop off supplies at 4350 Broadway or arrange a pickup.  Lehigh Valley Press

CRIME NEWS

  • Lights in the Parkway closed on Dec. 14 after vandalism damaged holiday displays near Lehigh Parkway, leaving port-a-potties in the river, bent poles & crushed bulbs. Residents with tickets should contact the parks office for rebooking or refund.  Parkland Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Dec. 13, Santa rode a 2014 Ford Mustang convertible through Alton Park neighborhoods to hand out candy and an orange—marking a safety update to his decades-long tradition previously done on an antique fire engine by organizers from the Mountainville Lions Club.  Lehigh Valley Press
  • Touchstone Theatre’s ‘Christmas City Follies XXVI’ charmed audiences with cozy holiday humor — featuring familiar characters and clever local nods — at its Dec. 4 opening in Bethlehem; the show ran until Dec. 21.  Lehigh Valley Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Salisbury Middle School announced its first marking period honor roll today, naming students in Grades 6, 7, and 8 for high and standard honors (academic achievement recognized).  Lehigh Valley Press
  • A new 4-H gardening club welcomes Lehigh County youth aged 8 to 18 to learn gardening skills and life lessons at the Agricultural Center on Dorney Park Road. The club will meet regularly — including tours, field trips, and expert talks from Penn State Master Gardeners.  Lehigh Valley Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Dec. 15, Emmaus Borough Council announced the borough won the Lehigh Valley Community of Distinction Award for its 2030 planning efforts (Mayor Lee Ann Gilbert and Borough Manager Shane Pepe highlighted the achievement) as part of the meeting's final updates.  Lehigh Valley Press
